My sister was driving home from work at 60mph and the car died on her. she did not hear any weird noises and it did not ****. when she tried to start it back up the interior lights and gauges came on like normal but it will not crank and there is no click. we took it home and the battery was low and the altenator checked good. what are some possibilities that could cause this? someone sugested that the engine siezed up but i am having a hard time believing that. we checked the oil and it was a little thick and dark but i dont think it was bad enough for the engine to sieze up. Please any help on this would be great thanks.
You say the battery was low- have you tried to jump the car or charge the battery and then start it? If it turns over it isn't seized.
To be sure it isn't seized up try to turn the engine over by hand ! Get a socket that fits the crankshaft bolt . 1/2 drive an a breaker bar , you can buy them at a parts store . Me i prefer craftsman . If it spinnes it's not seized , then you need to look at the electrical part of . Do you know how to test automotive electrical circuits ? Voltage drop testing , how to use a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? Do you know the componets in the starting circuit ? Starter of course , PNP - park neutral position switch , starter relay , Heavy gage battery cable to the starter , control wire to the S terminal on the starter solenoid .

take it to a garage and put it on the obdII reader.Save the guesswork.Had 1 just like that and the the code reader diagnosed 7 different things. But car should be running.I fixed mine by replacing almost all the sensors and the computer

to start , make sure the battery is fully charged or try to jump start it. If the starter does not work after jump starting, check the wiring to the starter. be careful to label the wires where they go. Check all grounds. try to crank to engine. If it clicks and still does not turn or clicks only one or at all. Replace the starter.

could be neautral safety switch ours does this and we have to pull it out of park and put it back into park or hold the shifter lever up while turning the key the sec light should go out if it starts. ours does.

can you hear the starter spin faintly when you jump it? like if the solenoid wasn't engaging into the flywheel? other than that i think you got everything covered.... did they load test the starter or just put power to it and spin it up? also make sure the copper wire from the main lug on the starter to the brushes inside the starter is not damaged or missing.. take some jumper cables and hook them to your battery and then directly to the starter and see if it spins it up if not try that with a different battery,, if still no go buy a new starter it may not be performing under heavy load good luck please rate -jeff

Does it crank at all or is there nothing when you turn the key? If the resistor chips in the key(s) are bad, they shut down the fuel system for 3 minutes and it won't crank. I've had this happen and the problem was solved when I got new keys.
