2001 Chrysler T & C fan speed switch

My fan only works on high speed. (very loud) The wiring diagram isn't clear if I could just jumper one of the resistors to get the next speed down. I have replaced the resistor block and still the same. I now know how the bezel comes off the dash panel so I can get to the switch.
My question is, can I get a switch from Chrysler and replace it or would it be better to just go to a junk yard and get that whole panel?
Any idea on the costs of either of those options?

Thanks in advance, DP

Dear tech23: I have 12 volts at the resistor block which the wiring diagram shows the circuit then goes to ground, completing the circuit, through the switch.

I've seen a comment on another forum that suggests the blower can be on the high side of spec for current draw and can burn out the switch contacts, except for the high speed with no resistance.

Need the location of the fan resistor,

More likely it's your fan speed switch. If the resistor pack goes bad, usually fan only works on high speed, but is still turned on and off by the fan switch. If yours stays on all time with key on, and won't turn off by the fan switch, probably a bad fan switch.
The resistor will be on the heater case, mounted with two small screws, a small rectangle with a wire connector with 4 or 5 wires to it, and not far from the blower motor.

please follow this steps and fix it.
A fan failure, or a failure of the fan relay or control circuit is bad news because it can allow the engine to overheat.
Five things may prevent an electric cooling fan from coming on:
  • Defective temperature switch or coolant sensor
  • Engine thermostat is stuck OPEN (engine never gets hot enough to turn on the fan)
  • Failed fan relay
  • A wiring problem (blown fuse, loose or corroded connector, shorts, opens, etc.)
  • Bad fan motor
ELECTRIC COOLING FAN QUICK CHECKS.
One way to quick check the fan circuit is to start the engine and turn on the A/C to max. If the fan runs, the fan motor, relay, fuse and wiring are all okay. But this test doesn't show if the temperature switch or temperature sensor and PCM are energizing the fan when coolant temperatures are high.
To check the temperature at which the fan comes on, turn the A/C off and keep the engine running until it reaches normal operating temperature. Most fans should come on when the coolant reaches about 200 to 230 degrees. If the fan does not come on, something in the control circuit is defective. Resistance checks should then be made on the temperature sensor or switch, and a voltage check on both sides of the relay (you will probably need a wiring diagram of the fan cooling circuit on your vehicle to identify the relay terminals and wiring connections).
The fan motor itself can be checked by using jumper wires. Unplug the wiring connector on the fan, and use the jumper wires from the battery to route power directly to the fan. If the fan motor is good, the fan should spin at normal speed when supplied with 12 volts. Noisy bearings or a slower than normal speed would indicate a worn motor.

Replace resistor on 1999 chrysler cirrus a/c heater blower only working on high IF I pull the switch out--still have the same problem==what's next???

According to the wiring diagram, it looks like the blower motor is grounded thru the resistor which is grounded thru the fan switch on the dash. High speed bypasses the resistor.
If you have power on the terminals coming out of the resistor, the problem could be in the fan switch.

Fan switch only works on high.

There are three wires to your electric fan; a ground, and low/high speed power wires. You can try jumpering the low speed power wire directly to the battery to see if the fan is bad or not. If the fan works it may be a bad relay.

My 2001 Voyager blower fan only runs on high.

This is 100% the Blower (Fan) Motor Resistor located near the Blower Motor.
This is a very common problem with Chyrsler, Dodge, Plymouth. The key symptom is the Fan only working on High.
This is very easy to access and replace.

Let me know if this helped....

Have 2001 grand caravan sport 3.3L and the fan switch will only work in the high position, what may be the reason for this? THANKS

sounds like it is the blower fan resistor, there is a wire for every speed of the blower motor. so if a wire burns out, you will loose that speed. the resistor is located behind glove box.

Climate control switch only works on high

There is a resistor switch that controls the fan speeds. When it shorts out it defaults to high speed only. It is not too expensive and is not very hard to replace. It is located adjacent to the blower and has an electrical hook up to it.

Hope this helps.

I need a wiring diagram for the radiator fan on my 2001 pt cruiser

Check your public library they may even have access to a paid data base. Maybe this will help. With electric fans it's almost always the motor, It's a two speed fan that has three wires. The black is ground, the dark green is the hot for the low speed and the yellow is the hot for the high speed. Run jumpers from the battery to the fan connector. If the fan doesn't run the motor is bad.

Blower blows high flow only

What about the control switch, did you change it????? usually the switch will only run on one speed. mesna the switch is bad. You could pull the switch off, and get a jumper wire and cross the other speeds out to see if they will work.
