Book time is 7.8 hours for 1997 to 2001 Cherokee. Non oem part is about $100. You must remove dash, center consule, drain freon and antifreeze to access core. One special tool needed to pop A/c line out of box. Recommend if you attempt this get the repair model it will assist you if you get stuck.

If you smell antifreeze, the problem would be the heater core.
Another indication is when you turn on the defroster and see a oily film on your windshield.
The heater core would have to be replaced.
In order to do this the whole dashboard would have to come out to get the heater box out.
In a dealer the process would take about 4 hours from qualified mechanics who have done this before.

No leak and 2003 nissan xterra smell like anti freeze check radiator, water pump.hoses.heater core.anti freeze level in radiator is perfect

If you can smell, then you have a leak,if the heater core has a pin hole, then the box that houses it will hold the antifreeze to wear you won't see any, have to take the box apart and see, check your hoses going thru the firewall to see if there leaking.

If your smelling anti freeze inside the car 8 times out of ten its the heater core. The other 2 times could be a loose hose somewhere.

Heater core 1987 lichon signature 5.o location

heater core is located on the front passenger side next to your ac evaporator assembly, your heater unit uses engine coolant water as a heater , the reason why you smell anti freeze because your core has a leak.
you can disassemble the unit if you have the right tool and by removing the front glove box and console panel to expose and give way to check that unit, it normally fastened by screws and a few bolts and nuts.

Heater immediately fogs all windows and there is a sweet odor in the cab of 2003 Buick Rendezvous, defroster works fine, but will not clear the windows after heat is put on

Sounds like a possible heater core failure(hole in it) the smell indicates to me the coolant(anti-freeze) is leaking into the passenger compartment.
Check the carpet in front of the front passenger seat for moisture, this would confirm heater core leak.
Good luck !

Heater blows air on bottom but not top and it also smells like anti-freeze

Hi:
Your car has a vacuum operated valve that directs the air flow from the bottom to the top, and it is most likely either that, or the heating control panel. Your bigger issue is the anti freeze smell. That is pretty much telling you that your heater core is leaking inside the car. The heater core doesnt cost too much, $25- $50 or so, but the fun part is getting to it. I have had to remove the entire dash from 3 cars to change the heater core, and one vehicle, my Ford Truck, was very easy, just removed the glove box to get at it.
Fix your anti freeze leak first, and inspect the heat valve and controls while the car is disassembled.

I get a smell of antifreeze when I put the outside

Firsdt check the radiator cap thats it tight , then check for any anti freeze visible on the engine, then check under the car for any leaks. Is the smell of anti freeze inside the car ? , check the heater core you may have a leak there. the newer heater cores are aluminum and certain anti freezes, are extra acidic , which causes the anti freeze to eat at the heater core causing leaks, it maybe be a pin hole leak in the heater core ,causing the smell.

2004 Envoy Smell like Anti-freeze when turn on the air

probably is a small seep in the heater core. does not have to be leaking enough to find any inside the car to have a strong smell in there just a small seep that makes the heater core wet will do it.

Windows fog up,small anti-freeze smell

The early sign of a heater core leak is the smell of coolant, the reason is that only vapor is leaking now, it will gradually get worse in most cases and coolant will start comming out the heater box condensation drain.
