Remove the brake caliper and then remove the brake rotor, remove the large axle nut on the end, undo the lower bolt from the strut/spring assy and swing the assy out of the way as you pull the splined axle out of the the brake rotor hub, once the axle is free with a swift **** pull the axle from the transmission, it will most likely be a bitc.. to get out of the trans, but keep jerking until the internal snap-ring releases.

SOURCE: how to change cv joint honda accord 1998

web page on this site not working as it should so found a way in in from here ,anyway its easy to do but i dont always strip them as i have a big lolly pop tool that opens with compressed air ,but what you do is to remove the steering track rod end ,then the bolts holding the suspension leg and pull the drive shaft out ,taking the big nut off before you remove the wheel of course ,sorry getting tired in this time zone ,right now put a big pair of stilsons on the drive shaft so it cannot pull out from the inner end then tap the end with a heavy hammer and it will drop off as the circlip is on the end and not inner end that needs circlip pliers ,when refitting squeeze the clip in with long nosed pliers and with three hands tap the drive coupling back on ,while its off using a small tappy hammer knock one side of the ball retaining ring down so the ball bearing pops out on the opposite side ,take all 6 out and wash out with petrol or diesel ,,refit the balls and then push some grease up the middle ,when refitting the new rubber boot push some grease up into that so when you fit the boot the lips are dry from grease or it will slip off on the turn .this job takes me with coffee break and ciggy included about half hour on a southern europeon vehicle ,but a vehicle from northerneurope with all the rain and salt up their _?_=? well anything up to 3 hrs or more allowing for drilling the seized up bolts .

Cv joint and boots

Hi Wendy Ann,
Hard to give an exact diagnosis when I can not hear the noise myself. Generally, a bad CV joint will make a clicking sound when you turn a corner. From what you describe, it sounds like you've been ignoring the problem for some time. Due to the mileage on your car, I would recommend that you change both front half axle assemblies. [There are two CV joints/boots on each half axle] This is a common problem on front wheel drive cars.

Sounds like a CV Joint to me. You could either buy the CV joint and replace it yourself, or take it in.

My honda accord 1992 trasmission makes a bumpreaction when shifting from park to drive

With the hood open:

Put the car in park take off the emergency brake and push the car forward and back looking for a difference in movement of the CV joints where the Axle mates to the CV. I.e.... CV joint travels a short distance before you see any axle movement. Worn CV joint knuckles will cause all kinds of clunking.

If there is no movement between the CV joint and axle when you push the car fwd or back you already know the problem is internal to the transmission.

Changing cvc joints 1997 accord

replace the entire CV axles. Support vehicle with jackstands by frame. Remove front wheels. Remove axle nuts. Remove lower balljoint nut. Separate balljoint from nuckle by banging hard with ball peen hammer on knuckle on spindle assy. Remove outer tie-rod nut. Separate tie-rod from steering nuckle by bangin on nuckle with ball-peen hammer. Use long pry bar to hold lower control arm down while simultaneously pulling hub/spindle assembly away from vehicle and pushing axle through hub toward transaxle. Go under vehicle and pry inner cv joint away from transaxle while holding axle assembly.
Install new CV axle in reverse of the disassembly.

My 1992 Honda Accord EX-R makes a clunking/rattling sound...

It's probably your cv (constant velocity) joint. Jack up the honda and put it on safety stands, look at the area behind the center of both front wheels, there is a rubber boot. This boot protects the cv joint from dirt, road grime, water, salt, etc. If you see splits in it or grease on the boot, it has deteriorated, and is letting contaniments in. The damage has already been done if it makes a rattling noise going around corners at slow speed. I changed both cv joints (purchased rebuilt axles for $49 each) in my 92, but it is a big job labor wise. There's a lot to take apart to remove the axles.
