    Hi:

I was talking to a machanic in the neighborhood. He says this is a fan clutch. I hope I have the wording correct. I notice the noise most of the time. All the gages are running correctly. What do you think of this?

Yes it is the water pump after the mechanic further looking at the situation. I would like to see a diagram for changing this water pump to determine if we would like to attempt it. We have replaced a lot of things on cars. Thanks for all your information.

This sounds like the waterpump bearing are shot. Is the coolant still up, no signs of leaks?? Frankster016

I should have told you to check the water pump bearings by loosening the fan belt. Then move the fan blade in an out. You will find that the shaft an all move. Just a guess, but you found this prob from a noise at idle speed? Its a big job to change the water pump. Hope this helps a bit more! Frankster016
