How to I change the tail light bulbs in my 1989 Buick Century?
I have a Tail/directional bulb out in my 1989 Buick Century Custom-there is no quick access panel like in most cars-it appears the entire lens assembly (which spans from left to right rear of the vehicle in one piece) has to come off to get to the lamps-however, I can't see how this is done. There are screws coming into the trunk from the outside, but i don't see where I can even unscrew this tail light lens. I'm not unfamiliar with auto repair of this level of difficulty-HELP!

I just did a 97 Regal yesterday and yes you are correct...the strip must be removed to gain access...depending on model you may have to remove the cushioning panel (piece of upholstery panel) on the inside of trunk lid...follow this video URL as it explains the removal better in video form than written..basically remove the 7 10mm nuts holding panel on, lower trunk lid a little and wiggle panel off, twist socket and remove to gain bulb access..install is reverse procedure ...Regal, Century and LeSabre are all same idea/setup Tail Light Change 1997 2005 Buick Century 2004 Buick Century Custom 3 1L V6
its the same bulb but a different filament in the bulb.open the trunk and you may have to move the trunk rug out of the way and you should see about what looks like 6 wing nuts that have to be removed then pulled out the tailight assembly to change the bulb.
Some bulbs can be changed without removing the tail light. First check to see if there is an access panel in the trunk trim near the tail light. If there is, you can twist the turn signal socket counter-clockwise to remove it from the unit. If there is no access panel you will have to remove the portion of trim blocking the tail light. This is usually held in by a few small clips. After it is removed you can follow the directions above.
Lastly, some models have to have the tail light removed to change a bulb. The bolts will either be behind the trunk trim or on the inside edge of the tail light.
Once the bulb is changed just reverse the steps to put it back together.
Inside the trunk, under the carpet behind the tail lights will be a whole bunch of small plastic nuts, running from one side of the car to the other. Take all of these plastic nuts off, and the whole tail light assembly will come off in one large piece. Find the bulb you need to replace, and reassemble
