Question about 1991 Volvo 940

1 Answer

Turbo problems... I have a couple questions...I have a 91 volvo 940se with 118,000 miles....First off here is what i've replaced...cap, rotor, wires, plugs, fuel/air filters, first and secondary fuel pumps, oxygen sensor, carrier bearing, and bushing.... i've done a few other repairs but don't relate to my problem....My 940 SE runs pretty awesome for the most part, I had some plugged injectors wich was making the car miss fire at low level rpms....thats all cleared out but I am getting lambda control codes. both a too rich, and a too lean code. also my turbo only spools up about a 1/3rd of the way into he white.... my question would be, what is my next move on figuring out why i'm getting these fault codes and why wont my turbo spool up all the way?

These sound like the classic Ethanol problems I was getting, keep using it in that model and it'll start stalling too!! For some reason the ethanol doesn't go well with our o2 sensor, cakes it with carbon from the alcohol, I poured a bottle of octane booster and filled up with non-ethanol and haven't had the problem since

Fuel injection relay. It is located under the hood inside the fuse box. It is either red or green in color. It is one of the larger relays. This is classic symptom of these things going bad. The heat causes the relay to swell and not engage properly. They die out every couple of years. Usually the car will start again after it cools down.

Won't start , electrical problem ?

Not sure on the 04 model, however I have had to change the PICK UP coil which is different from the main coil. The engine ran and then just stopped like I turned it off and would not start.
Check to see if you have a Pick UP coil that may be out.
