Question about 1994 Toyota Tercel

1 Answer

Heat in my 94 Toyota Tercel has a problem and so does the ignition.

The heat in my car was working fine then all of a sudden one day it wont work. Some times it comes on and works fine then sometimes a very small amount of heat comes out. It doesnt make any strange noises.

When I get in my car to start it sometimes it wont turn over, or do anything. If I turn the key a few times it will work but not always.
Any Suggestions??

Question 1: Do you have a temperature gauge, and, If so, where does it read when there is no heat?

Question 2: When you turn the key, and it does not start, do you hear a single "click" noise from the engine compartment?

Warm your car up to temperture. Grab the upper rediator hose. Is it warm or cool. If its cool your thermosat is stuck closed and thats why you have no heat. If that works fine I would look at your heater core next.

My1994 toyota tercel stalls when warm

Could be bad electrical part failing as it gets hot. Coils, ignition modules, crank/cam sensors all can do this. Quite common. Check if you have spark to plugs when it fails. If not, start testing parts. Problem is, they will cool and then test ok so this can be hard to find. Start with ignition module which parts stores often test for free. Run test several times to heat the unit up.

Temperature guage doesn't work and heat blows cold

Check the thermostat. It sounds as though it's stuck in the open position. Fuel comsumpion increases as well.

Fans dont work and overheats 94 toyota tercel

Most systems work pretty much the same. First check the fans themselves by hot wiring them to the battery. If they work, you need to check the engine temp sensor (some vehicles use one for gauge and fans, others use a separate one for fans) relay, and of course any fuses.
You will help yourself a lot by getting either a chilton or haynes manual to show you how to do testing.

94 Camry was running fine, suddenly became sluggish

How did you try to obtain the codes? Did you short pins E1 and Te1 in the grey connector under the hood?

When the light comes back on, short the above pins, and get back to us.

Without seeing the codes, I would venbture a guess that you first consider a good tune-up, and use Toyota plugs only. Any other manufacturer will not work very well. I see this every day, new plugs, and the engine runs poor. Toyota plugs fixes it right up. The heat ranges are diffferent in Toyota plugs.

No heat, temp gauge low, need ideas...

Sounds like a chronic case of plugged heater core. Water can flow through the tubes as long as the flow is slow. When the engine speed is raised, the flow decreases.
If you would like to contact me again about this or other problems, feel free to do so.
