2000 Pontaic Montana

Alright Ladies and Gents here it is.....

I have a friend that has a 2000 P. Montana... The engine is overheating, however the water pump was just replaced yesterday as well as the therm-o

The radiator cap and radiator is cool to the touch though....I told him just because the water pump was new does not mean it could'nt be defective....He says he has heat ( but no online capabilities obviously ).

I looked at it yesterday and of course I asked about the intake gaskets ( all 3 of them) he replaced the 2 uppers and I know he replaced the lower last year I think as it blew a head gasket on the left bank....(towards the firewall)

I noticed a brown slime in the coolant system which was probably Bars stop leak - He had forgotten he put it in there like 1.5 - 2 years ago..

And lastly yesterday we took it for a ride after flushing the system and the water pump-therm-o replacement and it was fine then it overheated on hisd way home.....The bleeders have been taken care of..

Any Takers???????

Thanks Butch1964- The therm-o is good, it is opening - he bought a failsafe thermo to boot......Do you think that bars stop leak could have it clogged to the point of no circulation? I can honestly tell you it looked like he had put alot in it...again his was put in a year or more ago(The stop-leak-Bars)

I thought of just eliminating the Therm-o and running it without it just to see if the rad would heat, at least that would tell me it had circulation......

Side note - I spoke to this guy about 1/2 hour ago and he said it is just blowing all the fluid back into the overflow when it gets hot..but again no heat in the cap or rad....cool to touch , ya know

Do you think the bars stop leak would clog the system enough to prevent circulation? From what he told me the Bars was put in last year or 18 months ago....but it looked like he put A good bit in there as the overflow jug was lined with it and looking into the rad with the cap off you could see it gunked up in there.......

He also told me when it overheats it just blows coolant back into the overflow jug.....but the radiator is not getting hot nor the rad cap......

I forgot to get back to this...after all the saga it ended up being a faulty heater core.....remeber folks if your montana has rear heat you have 2 heater cores.....The one in question did not have rear heat but I wanted to remind y"all........I can honestly say this van is a major dissapointment and thank god I dont own one.,..

I have a 2000 montana and mine was doing the same thing. I replaced intake manifold gaskets, thremostat, and water pump. Turns out it my heads were warped. I had them taken to a machine shop and it has seemed to fix my overheating problems.

I would say bad new thermostat before water pump but I would also bet the engine needs a good flushing out Flush the engine, change therostat and make sure fan is turning. You say radiator and caps are cool, so we know the water is not circulating. My bet is on a good flushing.

2000 pontaic montana will turn over but not spark

You'll need a repair book or shop manual to get the wiring diagrams and test procedures.
You would need to know if you have power going into the module and a signal from the computer.

2000 pontaic montana wont spark

likely a bad crank sensor or bad ignition module, coil packs can go bad
to but not normally all three at the same time.if the coil packs look ok
then i would look at what tell it to fire witch is the crank sensor, the cam sensor should tell the injectors when to fire, but thats not to say they couldn't be linked in some vehicles needing singal from both for fuel
and fire to work. hope this helps

I have a busted lower radiator hose

Replace the hose and hope the helloo that you haven't damaged the engine from overheating. Check the exhaust for coolant vapor, it will have a sweet smell, like an old ladies bad perfume.

How do i reset my abs warning light on my 2000 pontaic montana?\

ABS light on - means your Brake ABS system is not working.
Some autoparts stores, like AutoZone will scan you car for error codes. I recall that they can scan for engine and chassis codes, like the ABS system. They can also reset the light.

The bad news is that when the ABS light stays on, there really is something wrong with your ABS. You should get the car scanned and an estimate for the repair.

Pontiac Montana overheating

How do you know the thermostat is ok? If in doubt replace it. Water pumps are a even bigger what if. Did he do a radiator flush? Cooling system flush of the engine? Cooling fans come on at what temp and go off when? Replace the engine temperature sensor? 6 years old is bound to have sensors and such go bad.
