Question about 1996 Volkswagen Jetta

2 Answers

Car alarm I tried to start my 96 Jetta Trek after it hadn't been run for a few weeks. It just went "click, click, click" and I tried a couple more times and then the alarm started going off! Thankfully stopped after a couple of minutes. Then started again when I opened the door to get out - again stopped after a few minutes. However, I had put in a new radio/CD player awhile ago - would I punch in the same code? Haven't tried it yet because don't want the alarm to go off. Also, the lock came out of the driver's door a long time ago but will turning the lock in the passenger door turn the alarm off?

This morning I came out to start my 96 jetta and the battery seemed dead. So I began the process of getting a jump and as soon as we connected the jumper cables to the jetta the alarm started going off. We...

The immobilizer feature was tripped when the alarm went off. It sounds like the battery was indeed dead. My Nissan 300ZX used to trip the alarm when I jump-started it, although my Audi A4 does not. When the alarm is going off, you have to disarm it with the key or key fob first, or you won't be able to start it. Try putting the key in the door, lock it, unlock it, lock it again, and unlock it again, just to make sure you get a couple of arm/disarm cycles, then try starting it.

97 VW Jetta won't start, no clicking

It might be starter wiring problem. Look for wire coming to the top part of the starter. One might be not tight enough or went off.

96 getta trek alarm

the alarm is set right behind the headlight switch within the dash. Pull out the light switch and unplug it. The tricky part here is u most probably have to get ur arm way up inthe from under the steering column. To know with box is the alarm, u can actually hear and feel it clicking. Its roughly the same size as a deck of cards. Once u remove it, cut the 2 big red wires and connect them together. U must connect them in order to bypass the alarm. Good luck.
