'97 GMC Jimmy locks up

I've got a '97 Jimmy that has been giving me a lot of problems lately. It doesn't accelerate as smoothly as it used to and kind of jerks when I press on the gas. As I was pulling out of the gas station the other day, I think I pressed too hard on the gas, and the truck seemed to 'cut off.' It was still on, but the steering locked up, I couldn't hit the brakes and the gas did nothing when I pressed it. I cut it off for a minute, turned it back on, and it worked fine. This has happened twice now. I just replaced the fuel filter a few months ago.

Why does my 2000 gmc jimmy shut off while in motion?

It could be the Throttle Position Sensor ( TPS ) or Idle air control motor. Determining this will help be a guide. If it idles but you cannot accelerate, then it could be the Idle air control ( IAC) or the MAF ( mass air control sensor).
If it idles but stalls when you try to accelerate, then I would first suspect the TPS. You could throw a lot of money at this problem and not solve it. I would suggest getting the computer scanned to find out what codes it is throwing before buying any parts to swap.
Hope this helps!!

I have a 97 GMC Jimmy that keeps trying to overheat. We've replaced the water pump and the coolant temp gauge however its ranging from half to 3/4 temperature. Is it possible that a sensor could be...

It could be a few things - stuck thermostat , bad sending unit , bad gauge in
the dash.

I would HIGHLY suggest going to a parts store and buying a Haynes repair
manual ( about 25 bucks ) before you do anything else.
It will give you step by step instructions / diagnosis on this problem and a whole lot more !
Well worth the money.

Since purchasing my 99 GMC Jimmy 3 years ago, I have had an intermittent issue with the vehicle key security system not allowing my vehicle to start for 10 minutes. Unable to get garage to 'diagnose"...

Before giving up on the truck take it to a gmc dealership. They know more about the pass key system than any independent repair shop. The problem may be as simple as a faulty ignition lock cylinder (where you insert the key) or the truck may need a new anti theft module. But whatever the problem, the dealer is the best place to diagnose the problem.

Gmc jimmy keeps eating fly wheels and starters. its like motor is locking for a second.

With starter removed, turn the flywheel with a tool. It is easier with tranny removed, but check for how easily it moves. Does engine have lots of power? Is the engine making any kind of knocking noises?

How do I replace a lower balljoint on a 97 GMC Jimmy 4WD?

Unless you have some kind of a press to press the old one out and the new one in, better take and have it done.
Need to take the tire off
brake calipar and rotor and bracket off
take the 4wd locking hub assembly out
there is nuts and locking rings in there
pull the axel. Pull cotter pin from nut on ball joint stud, take off nut, separate ball joint from steering knuckle with seperator tool, then you need to press out the joint, sometimes the top joint has to be taken off too. It's a job, and you need the right tools. If you don't get the 4wd assembly back the same way, you have 4wd problems.
