I have the same problem. It has to do with the knock sensor. It will cause your car to not perform at it's full performance. Jaguar told me either the knock sensor is bad or the wires are freyed. Either way it is hard to get to and an expensive fix. $1200.00. I have been driving with mine like that for around a year. My cruise still works even though it says it won't. It doesn't do as good on gas though.

This morning I got into my car and the same thing happened. The cruise control indicated cruise not available and my check engine light appeared. by driving the car this way will it cause more damage to the engine? I still have the 30 day warranty with the dealer, they should fix the issue.

I also have a bad knock sensor and have the same symptoms you have described. Does anyone know exactly where the knock sensor is located?

I was sitting still, with engine running, and got a cruise control not available message. (I had leaned over to close the passenger door, and may have hit the cruise control) Then amber engine light came on. What now??

When its cold the engine light comes on and the "cruise not available" light comes on. car acts as if it wants to cut off. Luches and hesitates upon acceleration. Engine light stays on.

Engine light came on and the message center reads cruise control not available and the car sputters occassionally as I accelerate speeds. Then everyting went back to normal but the amber light is still on. what do i do?

I have the same exact problem. It got cold, Engine Malfunction light came on, cruice control out/not working came on, and car jitlted a bit once i drove it. This seems like a common jag problem, as I read all the search engines i have looked at. You would think a recall would be in order to fix this. Thanks for al the other posts. It's nice to know what to do.

Replace the 2 large rubber o-rings in the intake manifold - passenger side - behind the 2 large plastic valves with electrical connectors. probably 3 or 4" in diameter.

2005 Subaru Outback. Trip odometer suddenly said Err 55, cruise control started flashing, ABS lit up, and check engine light had come on. I noticed a day later that the regular odometer had frozen,

I found this under Fixya; 2006 Subaru Outback; there were 25 answers: The problem is not with an emission issue as you would expect with a check engine light. The ER 55 code on the odometer means that there is a loss of communication with the ECU, that is why the check engine light is on and cruise light flashing. for what ever reason whenever your check engine light comes on the cruise becomes disabled. Lame I know. I work in the service department and have seen this issue a lot. The only real way to fix this issue is to go the dealer and have them do a reflash for your vehicle. If the ECU is bad it is covered under the federal emmission wrty for 8 years or 80,000 miles

When cruise control is on and is going up a hill the car sputters

It may be a coil failing. Check related wiring harnesses for the ignition system. Look for damaged wires and loose or corroded connections. Without proper test equipment it will be harder to identify. You can try removing and inspecting the spark plugs. With some luck you might notice one that is black or wet (at the electrode). Honestly it would be a good idea to have the codes read. If you go to Autozone, they will read them for free but the engine has to be on at the time that they read it. If turning off the ignition, turns off the engine light. You must leave the engine running during the test. If you have any other information or questions, please write back. Good luck.

Cruise option not available light comes on occasionally and at certain times when it does the car sputters (for lack of better word) as it it is going to cut off, and the engine light stays on

Hello the cruise will not work with the engine management light on, this will also happen with the abs light on. You should have the codes checked at a local garage. Try checking the pipe which runs from the top of the manifold to the front of the car on the right hand side as these are very common for splitting but are very cheap from the dealers.

Check engine light, cruise control light flashing,

Take the car to Autozone or similar business for a free code read with a scanner. Depending on what turns up, they will be happy to sell you any needed parts.

Surges

Surges? Mine would surge, sputter, like it was losing power and the engine light would come on. I got a message saying Cruise Control not available. I opened the hood and heard a hissing sound. There was a leak in my PCV hose. I taped it up with some electrical tape that I keep in my glove compartment and problem solved. My mechanic replaced the hose for about $15

ABS Light and Check Engine Light on, Cruise light flashing

I had this occur on my 2007 Subaru Tribeca. ABS, Traction Control, Check Engine lights were solid, Cruise Control light was blinking and "Er SS" (commonly misread as Er 55) displayed on Trip Odometer. All lights were cleared after 10 or so miles. It appears this is a Speed Sensor (SS) reading error whereby the computer notices an irregularity with the readings taken from the four wheels. Most often it is a temporary and harmless glitch and sometimes a result of debris that is impeding the sensor's reading at one of the wheels.
