Yes take the glove box out. Once done you should see a control that kinda resembles a boot and it has a small white arm on it that looks like a straw and has two phillip head screws that should be removed then disconnect the wire connection to it. Once you do that get a dremmel tool and cut a hole wide enough to see the doors they are right behind that black wall and dont worry its ok to cut that spot out all that comes out of it is air and it wont bother anything. you can take the doors out from there or at least see wuts wrong with it. More that like that thing i said that looked like a straw is connected to an actuator arm which the doors are connected to. You can see if they are broke or the arm just needs replacing from there. Doors up for heat------Doors down for a/c. You will see what i mean. If I confused ya then go to www.heatertreater.net and it will give you a picture of what i mean....

The blend door is part of the heater housing box. It involves removing the whole dash board unit just to remove the heater box.
I would think a blend door motor could be at fault if you have no heat or a/c.
Why would you want to replace the door?

Sounds like the door accuator is the problem.

If you look under the dash towards the floor (if someone is sitting in
the passenger seat, it would be towards there left foot) you should see
    a black sqarish box.

    That's the blend door motor.

It's a little tough to get out.

Try hitting it lightly , it might move.

Afternnon, just wondering about the best way to locate the blend doors in the hvac box without ripping out the dash on my 2000 jeep grand cherokee. Thanks in advance. Duane

y9ou can gain access to the driver side blend door actuator by removing the glove box. The actuator will be in the left corner of the glove box opening. If you remove the actuator you will be able to turn the pin. If you can turn it 360 degrees the blend door is broke.

If your lucky its only the drivers side. If you get the repair kit from chrysler it will come with instructions with pictures on how to replace the blend door without pulling the HVAC unit/Dash. If the passenger side is broken the HVAC unit will need to be removed.

Heater treater (google them) also have a metal blend door replacement and instructions online on how to replace them without pulling the HVAC housing.

My 2000 Grand cherokee only blows warm air from defrost or any vent, 105 to 110 on a 32 degree morning with high fan, about 10 degrees warmer on low fan. It gets warmer when it warms up outside.Engine...

This is a common problem with WJ Grand Cherokees, it's called a "Blend Door".

In the heating and cooling system you have doors that open and close to give you warm and cold air and a mix of both.

What you have is an arm that pulls a door with peg on top, the peg tends to snap off. As you said your dealer replaced the blend door or doors I would take it back as is has blend door all over it.

Yahoo and youtube "jeep grand cherokee blend door repair"

I had a 02 limited blend doors issues (note the issueS) and was lucky to have it still covered.

I do hope this helped.

Ac blows out the defrost side 1999 grand cherokee I-6 engine

these were common for the blend air door breaking around the pivot side. They would break clean off and not allow the switch of cold air to hot air etc. This can easily be dtermined by having a technician scan the HVAC module and a code will be "blend door range too large" then you know for sure either the actuator motor, or the blend door is broken. Either way, its 10 hours labor, minimum, at a shop. Simply because the entire instrument panel (dash) has to be removed from the vehicle and lay across the front seat. Then you can find access to the heater box and remove it. Only then can you replace the necessary doors, and actuators. Its very labor intesive. Good luck with the repairs.

Heat is out on 1999 jeep grand cherokee limited

I had this problem on a 99 grand cherokee limited, It was the heater blend doors and if you have dual climate control one side usually goes out before the other. These blend doors are located behind the glove box unaccessible inside the HVAC shell.
(http://www.wjjeeps.com/hvac_sub_assembly.htm) Motor failures for this HVAC sub assemblies is also something to look for although much less common.
My local dealership estimated $$$$$$$$$950.00 because they have to remove the entire dash so I looked around for something else.

I used something similar to this and now have heat that is controlled solely by the knob nearest the driver. It wasn't very difficult just kind of a tight squeeze.
Hope this helps
GOOD LUCK

I cannot get hot air from heaters

You likely have the dreaded "Blend Door" problem. In short, a piece of plastic that the engineers used to move the blend doors up and down was not up to snuff. As a result, the turning mechanism breaks, the blend doors fall down, and all you get is cold air. There's two fixes: One, you get a replacement Blend Door system from Chrysler and pay a dealer around $1000 to install it. (You have to discharge the A/C and remove the entire dash!) Or you can fix it using the "Heater Treater" fix. It's around $100 and you go in through the glove box. Just google "Heater Treater" for more info.

How do i replace a heatercore on my 99 jeep grand cherokee

You have to remove the console, put the steering column down, remove the complete dash to access the hvac assembly where reside heater core, blower fan, blend door(s) and recirculate door.

Around 15 hours of labour time by experimented person, plus the cost of defective parts.

If you're planning or thinking to do it yourself, I will suggest that you take a look on the following youtube accelarated video which give you an idea. www.youtube.com/watch?v=leskZBor0_o&feature=related

As you can see, it's an heavy process. So be sure you heater core is really the root cause of your problem (leaking? odor? etc...)
If you're not sure and experiencing heating problem could be also blending door, recirculate door, heater control valve, bad t-stat, incorrect cooling liquid level and so on...
Hope it will help

2005 jeep grand Cherokee ac blows cold only on drivers side. Other side blows out warm air. THANKS Vic

I agree, these vehicles have a problem with the blend doors and since the accuators hit the door when it opens and closes, it breaks the doors. and it's a huge job to replace them.
