Question about 1996 Chevrolet Lumina Mini
I have a 96 chevy lumina that I need to replace the EGV Valve on. The only experience I have with cars is doing an oil change and a tune up. I have the part, but I don't want to pay someone all that money just to install it. Any help would be great!
I believe you mean the EGR valve
If this is a 3.1 Liter,..it's located on the drivers side, on top of the engine. It's bolted down with (2) bolts, mounted vertically, and has a wiring harness attached to the top of it. It has a black plastic top, circular in shape, about 4 inches tall. After removing it, invert to show underside & try cleaning the orifice (with the recessed screw) with a soft brass brush & carb' cleaner....to remove the carbon build-up which causes poor running & "service engine soon" light to display. If carefully removed, the gasket can be re-used,..if it gets damaged, one can be purchased at a automotive parts supply.
If you plan on doing a lot of your own work on this van, I suggest buying a Haynes or a Chilton Manual from a local car parts store for you van, they can give you instructions on everything
