Question about 1991 Lincoln Continental

1 Answer

Sounds like aa pushrod

Car quit on side of road apparently hot , car was just fully serviced and when I got to it 2 days later I checked the oil for anti-freeze and saw 3 tiny droplets onthe distick, oil looked and smelled burnt, but the lower radiator hose was loose and had sprayed coolant all over that side of the engine including the oil filler cap ( might be were coolant came from on dipstick? Tried the engine and it fired , but it had a solid loud tapping sound which made me think pushrod. Now I'm old school ( 69 HEMI ROADRUNNER CONVERTIBLE complete with PISTOL GRIP HURST 4 GEAR) Its my daughters third car ( all were in great condition) but she has the worst luck (I guess) when it comes to cars. I know nothing about V^ engines and less about electronics. Can I do a quick fix and replace the pushrod or pushrods and get by for a little longer while I fix the second car she let get hot and can you tell me what I need to do or know about fixing this problem? ( the car not the daughter) thanx in advance, Bert

Try changing the oil in the car with 10w-40 and 1 bottle of Lucas Oil Stabilizer. The oil may be thinned out with the water causing it not to do it's job lubricating. Just substitute 1 quart of oil with the Lucas. If it doesn't change anything, remove the valve covers and check the pushrods for straightness. On that engine, the rockers are pedestal mount so you don't have to worry about setting valve lash. Just tighten them and go. I'm old school too. My daily driver is a 68 Mustang with a 331 stroker, competition prepped reverse pattern C-4 trans., rear gears are 4.11's, goes 11.81 @ 114mph., 1.71 60ft's.

My 2014 Honda accord has been running great... I had my oil changed about 3 days ago, today 2/26/15 no problems all day until I got home turned off car and probably 2 hrs later tried to restart and it will...

It could be your battery. It could also be your alternator, or just corrosion on the battery terminals. I would remove the battery and clean the terminals. Take your battery to a auto parts store. Most will check your battery for free. If your battery is not charged fully ( which is likely) they will have to charge it before testing. This could take a while. If the battery checks out get some battery terminal grease before you leave the store. Reinstall the battery using the grease. Drive the car up to the store and ask to have the charging system checked.
If you can get the car started. This entire procedure can be done at the store. But you would be running the risk of the car quitting on you somewhere on the way to the store.

First place I would check are the battery terminals. Remove them and clean the posts, re-attach and tighten them. You can buy a tool for cleaning the posts at your local auto store.

Strut noise. sounds like shaft is hitting strut mount.

It shouldn't matter too much unless the car is being driven very ******* very undulating road surfaces.
If you used non genuine struts, especially Chinese brands then this noise can be quite apparent almost immediately.

When you say yellow bellows, I presume you mean bump stops.

Kia carnival 2000, have replaced radiator, water pump, timing belt, intake, full service and now its over heating, using water and water in oil

if the oil is getting coolant in it sounds like a head gasket when the work was done there was a air pocket not cleared out and after over heating the head gasket can fail or if it got hot enough some thing might have cracked

I recently changed my oil and a couple of days later a tapping (Cherping) sound is continously sounding. It isn't the belt. what can it be

Check your oil level. Sometimes dry pushrods will squeek before they break. The noise comes from where the rocker arm meets the pushrod. Or if you are lucky, the PCV valve is not tight into the valvecover. The PCV valve can also make this sound on its own.

Check your oil filler cap for tightness. When checking your dipstick, start the car without the dipstick in place and see if the noise disappears.

Vehicle will not run

check the color of your oil if its like milky then yep it would be head gasket i guess replacing both is the way to go as its hard to determine if both are good or not. maybe the dealer was aware already of this prob.
