Question about BMW 325
Engine is a 6 cyl. and is knocking (or tapping) sounds like a pushrod and I want to do a temporary quick fix because I'm also rebuilding an 87 model and I don't want to buy another car. I just want this one to last a little longer so I can complete the other , then i'll redo this one. Have never done a BEAMER before and so far its only been small stuff, brakes ,suspension, alternator and new RAG TOP etc. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. thanx in advance, Bert
It could be just a hydraulic tappet that is stuck? Is the noise there constantly, or does it sometimes go away when the engine is hot? Best thing is to change the oil and put a tappet freeing additive in with the new oil to see if it goes away. There are a few around but the best one I've used is a product called Pro-Ma MBL8, not sure where you're based but this an address for the stuff: http://www.mapc.co.nz/performance-parts/vmchk/pro-ma-mbl8-oil-additive-250ml.html
Otherwise, if you ask at a local workshop, they may be able to give you some advice on a good product available in your area.
