No heat low coolant

Radiator was put in yesterday and so was the thermostat. the resevoir run low at times. where is the coolant switch located

YOU NEED TO ADD MORE COOLANT IN THE OVER FLOW JUG. YOUR OVER FLOW JUG IS WHERE YOU POUR COOLANT TO FILL UP RADIATOR. KEEP POURING COOLANT DOWN THE OVER FLOW JUG UNTIL COOLANT STOP DROPPING AND STAY AT THE FULL COLD MARK.KEEP EYE ON OVER FLOW JUG DONT LET RUN DRY BECAUSE AIR WILL BE PULLED IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM CAUSE A LOT OF ENGINE OVER HEATING PROBLEMS.

I put a new thermostat on my 2005 grand dodge caravan yesterday, today I have no heat. Some said vapor lock, where is the air drainage on this model?


there is no air bleeder, It will bleed it self . Or you could put a pan under radiator to catch coolant spill, Put pan under radiator, remove radiator cap, start engine,let engine run,have a 50% coolant mix on hand, when engine warms up the thermostat will open and allow flow of coolant. just as the thermostat starts to open air will release causing coolant to spill over filler cap inlet, this is normal, the pan is so you don't waste coolant or make a mess. in a few moments as the thermostat opens to full position the coolant level will fall in radiator, at this time you will fill radiator untill it will take no more,put cap on radiator and use clean fluid you caught in pan or coolant in jug or whatever you have it in and fill the coolant reservoir to fill line. i hope you have heat now ! check reservoir again the next day, if low fill and you should be good !! do this procedure when engine is cold,never remove a hot radiator cap. but if you were too, make sure you squeeze upper radiator hose, IF IT IS HARD OR UNDER PRESSURE, DO NOT REMOVE !!!! If you can squeeze the hose then put a rag over cap and remove slowly a little pressure or coolant might spill but should be minimal. I have alot of experience in this and severe burns are possible to the inexperienced !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Car over heats while accelerating. cools down when drifting. coolant runs out the coolant tank. bubbling noise. replaced the radiator. there is no thermostat on the car at all.


There is a thermostat. If you follow the top radiator to the engine thats were it should be. If you removed the thermostat and it is blowing out the radiator/ resevoir Then you have a blown head gasket. Also check to see if the fans are coming on. this could be a faulty coolant temperture sensor.

No heat


the thermostat may be stuck open, not allowing the the water in the radiator to warm up, or you may have a bad exchange on the dash that won't allow you to turn it from cold to hot.the resevoir is called an overflow resevoir.when the coolant heats up it expands and flows into there, when it cools back down it uses the coolant from the resevoir.

Where is the thermostat sensor


Both the 4.0L and 4.7L engines use 195� thermostats for all model years from 1999-2004. When replacing a thermostat it is very important to install one with the same temperature rating (the only exception might be with certain performance modifications or chips that recommend or require a different temperature thermostat).

4.0L engine - Draining the cooling system WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE CYLINDER BLOCK DRAIN PLUGS OR LOOSEN THE RADIATOR DRAINCOCK WITH SYSTEM HOT AND UNDER PRESSURE. SERIOUS BURNS FROM COOLANT CAN OCCUR.

1. DO NOT remove radiator cap first. With engine cold, locate radiator draincock on the right lower side of radiator facing to rear of vehicle.
2. Attach one end of a hose to the draincock. Put the other end into a clean container. Open draincock and drain coolant from radiator. This will empty the coolant reserve/overflow tank. The coolant does not have to be removed from the tank unless the system is being refilled with a fresh mixture. When tank is empty, remove radiator cap and continue draining cooling system. To drain the engine block of coolant, remove the cylinder block drain plug, located on the side of cylinder block below the exhaust manifold.

4.0L engine - refilling the cooling system Coolant recommendations and cautions: The recommended mixture is 50/50 ethylene-glycol and low mineral content water. Never use pure antifreeze. Only Mopar Antifreeze Coolant, 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula (glycol base coolant with corrosion inhibitors called HOAT) is recommended. This coolant offers the best engine cooling without corrosion when mixed with 50% distilled water. Antifreeze mixture must always be at least 44%, all climates year round. Maximum protection (-90d) is provided with a 68% mixture protection. If the percentage is lower than 44 percent, engine parts may be eroded by cavitation, and cooling system components may be severely damaged by corrosion. CAUTION: Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant, 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula (MS-9769) may not be mixed with any other type of antifreeze. Mixing of coolants other than specified (non-HOAT or other HOAT), may result in engine damage that may not be covered under the new vehicle warranty, and decreased corrosion protection.

CAUTION: Do not use coolant additives that are claimed to improve engine cooling. 4.0L coolant capacity: 1999-2000: 13.0 qts. (including 2.3 qts. for resevoir) 2001-2004: 15.0 qts. (including 1 qt. for resevoir)

1. Tighten the radiator draincock and the cylinder block drain plug(s) (if removed).
2. Fill system using a 50/50 mixture of ethyleneglycol antifreeze and low mineral content water. Fill radiator to top and install radiator cap. Add sufficient coolant to the reserve/overflow tank to raise level to FULL mark.
3. With heater control unit in the HEAT position, operate engine with radiator cap in place.
4. After engine has reached normal operating temperature, shut engine off and allow it to cool. When engine is cooling down, coolant will be drawn into the radiator from the reserve/overflow tank.
5. Add coolant to reserve/overflow tank as necessary. Only add coolant to the reserve/overflow tank when the engine is cold. Coolant level in a warm engine will be higher due to thermal expansion. To purge the cooling system of all air, this heat up/cool down cycle (adding coolant to cold engine) must be performed three times. Add necessary coolant to raise tank level to the FULL mark after each cool down period.

Overheating, low fuel efficiency, fuel smell in cabin


Sounds like coolant ports in the engine block is gunked up. Did you maybe notice the coolant ports when you changed the head gaskets? And, or, change the radiator cap,if you haven't already done so, I've seen them heat up over that too.

Did you open the radiator cap and make sure the radiator is full of coolant? Sometimes the hose from the coolant reservoir to the radiator becomes plugged, and the radiator will become low on coolant even when the plastic reservoir is full. Low water levels will prevent the coolant system from getting hot water from the engine to the radiator or heater cores. This will cause the engine to run hotter while the heater appears to not be working.

Low Coolant light stays on


Check you coolant resevoir. The low coolant switch is located in the resevoir so if it is low on coolant there, the light will come on. If it is full, it could be that the switch is stuck due to gunk build up in the resevoir. Hope this helps you out
