More info Please!! If the compression is 50psi, the motor is shot! However, you should be able to fire it up by pouring a cup of oil down the intake. It will smoke like mad for a few minutes! Frankster016

I have a 2001 ford explorer with the 4.0 sohc, have codes 171 and 174 showing,i've replaced egr vavle mass air, depe and o2 sensor,on cold days it has a rough idel but can not find leak

Both codes mean the fuel system is too lean, which could be a low fuel pressure issue.
Have you checked fuel pressure with a gauge ?

1998 ford explorer oil pressure

Knocking in engine and low oil pressure usually means bad main bearings. May have been caused by bad oil pump or just worn out bearings due to high mileage. If this is problem needs engine or rebuild old engine.

I have a 1994 ford explorer sport, im trying to figure out whether or not its a 4.0L pushrod v6 or a 4.0L sohc v6

if the moter says sohc on the valve cover that means the cam is in the head but most ford V6 motors have the cam in the block making it have pushrods.
