Usually means the engine bearings are worn out, or the oil pump is weak.
As the oil gets hot, it gets thinner, which reduces pressure. When the engine is at idle speed the pump is not pumping as fast as it is at highway speed.
Half full is not normal. You may have leak or burn. Clatter is usually the hydralic valve lifters. Does it quiet down after it's been running a while? What is the oil pressure?
check the oil and coolant levels. Have the fault codes read asap to determine the fault that switched the engine light on as the CPU considers it important to the safety of the engine and not to be ignored.
Can't believe some the lame answers here. Anyone having this issue check the PCV hose where it attaches too the air intake, the rubber breaks down and develops a leak. But these engines also have wiring issues that causes crankshaft sensor to fail at startup or under 1000 rpms causing the computer to shoot a code and trigger the engine light. I have these issue cause the above problem.
Had a new Lincoln Mark 7, battery was bad from beginning and would trigger alarm when it shorted at random. In your case, outside radio waves may trigger alarm if shielding was removed from alarm antenna.
It is probably intake air temperature sensor that will trigger faulty code but sometimes it wont. When you have your vehicle on Idle speed will try to kill engine but when you accelerate will be fine untill you stop at traffic light will turn of the engine again.
