I have 1991 ford escort pony which had run out of gas but after adding gas and replacing the fuel filter I discovered the timing belt was broken. I was wondering how difficult is it to replace the timing belt on my 91 ford escort?
Thanks for the advise. I did give it a whirl and with the help of a mechanic friend we were able to change the timing belt out. Thanks for the advise. I did give it a whirl and with the help of a mechanic friend we were able to change the timing belt out.

Its better to get a mechanic to do it then do it your self, if you do it yoursel u will have many more problems for the incorrect timing. find a low cost effective dealer and you will find that cheaper and quicker then doing it yourself.

problems can include broken timing belt
out of fuel
failed fuel pump--fuse
cam/crank position sensors
immobiliser
faulty ignition switch
failed ignition module
get it to where you can have the fault codes read ad fix the problem sensor/belt.
fuel filter is under the car on the driver side about middle way back.....but there is a little nozzle on the fuel rail under the hood it looks like were u put air in a tire....get somthing and push it in after u try nd start it to see if there is gas coming through...if there aint u have a fuel pump reset button in the back of the car...but more then likley u r goin to have to replace the fuel pump if u aint getting gas to the fuel rail......
could be clogged vacuum line or bad fuel filter maybe a bad tank of fuel try some gas treatment first then a fuel filter that should solve your problem
there is a start and run side to the ing modugle which is controled by the pick up coil in the dist i have seen this before. do you have fuel take a can off carb clean and the next time this happens spray a little carb clean in the inlet snorkle of the air filter housing, the fuel pump eneratia switch giving problems.
First check to see if you are getting fuel.If no fuel in the carburator the replace fuel filter. If still no fuel replace the fuel pump. You can put a little bit of gas, about a table spoon fuel in the carb.if it runs then replace the fore mentioned.
No it will NOT bend valves on this particular engine, if it goes out of
time. I would replace BOTH the timing belt and the drive belt at the
same time, since both are very inexpensive, even from the Ford dealer.
Line up both timing marks on both the cam and crank sprockets in the 12
o'clock position. The marks are very easy to see, once you remove the
timing belt cover. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the advise. I did give it a whirl and with the help of a mechanic friend we were able to change the timing belt out.
