No service engine soon light when I try to get trouble codes
I took my Dodge caravan in for a state inspection and the van failed because the mechanic could not get the service engine light on the instrument cluster to illuminate with the KOKFO. I changed the instrument cluster and still have the same problem. How do I get the service engine light soon to illuminate?

It comes on when the key is turned on to show it works, then it goes out as soon as the engine is started, it has a fuse, that will be marked, if the fuse is ok then you may have either a bad connection at the cluster connector or a bad ECM

Lots of places have OBD code readers and will check them for free, if you post the codes here, someone will assist you ,, if you reply to this feed I will help you once you have the codes, check the inspection report and see if it failed with what codes, sometimes they include the codes on that sheet
the light that you see is not a egr light it is a service engine soon light,,, you need to take the van to autozone or napa and have them check the codes on the computer... they do this for free... chances are is that you have a o2 sensor that has failed...
make a visual inspection of your van, do a walk around and look under the van for any oil or water leaks turn on the lights and haz. lights and walk around to see if all are working , look at the tires for any unusal wear, cuts, low tire pressure. check the oil level in engine and coolant. look at the air filter if possible for dirty filter. if u notice anything unusal tell the mechanic so repairs can be do and so u will not have any problems in the future.
po420 is catalytic converter efficiency. You will have to replace it to keep the light off. But as long as you live in a state that doesnt require emission test you can ignore it and it won't effect the way the van runs
Hi, this light is signaling an issue the concerns the state of a failed sensor or electrical component. I recommend taking this vehicle to a dealership or local mechanic as soon as possible for a diagnostic run on the ecm. this diagnostic scan will tell you and your mechanic what the specific issue is and, how to fix it.
In most cases, it will be a failed sensor or a failed sensor wire/housing.
When the trans. sticks itself in 2nd gear and stays there is because it's detecting a trans. problem and puts itself in "limp in" mode. When it happens again, to somewhere to have a scan done on the trans. so you can find out which sensor on the trans. is acting up.
