Question about Volkswagen Eurovan

I have a 1998 vw lt35 2.5tdi van with an ecu fault i would like to know if i replace it with an ecu from a similar model a year or so later that doesn't have an imobilizer will it work? thanks chris

ran vag .com so its a VW but unsre what year and what model and what country its in ,now even euroepon models had a OBDII before 2005 for VW but it wasnt compulsory till then here ,So i suspect that you have a europeon software or asian software as a american vehicle will have by american law the same software so it can be read for the emisions test unlike in europe where a probe and a anayliser are used .Iam asuming this is a petrol passat or similar like a audi but different problems can occur to different engine and your is no doubt a bigger V6 or something which i wouldnt see very often as diesels are the mainstay here with manual boxes ,now if this is a older vehicle with a ignition module seperate a bosch unit with 7 wires to it then this i would suspect if it starts from cold and runs but under load it fails ,another problem depending on model is the coil pack with built in ignition module bolted to the fire wall these crack with heat and give a similar problem.Right i have thrown my pennysworth in but without age and model i cannot help anymore

Vw golf mk5 airbag fault wires cut under seat reconnected does it require fault reset


You can reset the Airbag ECU only using VAG or similar diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, even you had repaired first fault wires cut under seat! After all faults erasing from the Airbag ECU the airbag warning light will turn OFF.

Hi, iv a 94 vw transporter and key is missing, the van has been parked for 3 years and i just want to find out if it wud start and if the engine is ok,,,is it fitted with an immobiliser?, if so i dont mind...


Immobilisers have been mandatory in all new cars sold in Germany since 1 January 1998, in the United Kingdom since 1 October 1998, in Finland since 1998, in Australia since 2001 and in Canada since 2007. Early models used a static code in the ignition key (or key fob) which was recognised by an RFID loop around the lock barrel and checked against the vehicle's Engine Control Unit (ECU) for a match. If the code is unrecognised, the ECU will not allow fuel to flow and ignition to take place. Later models use rolling codes or advanced cryptography to defeat copying of the code from the key or ECU. You do not say where you live. So have to be a bit generic. Hope this helps.

2004 vw 2000sdi caddy van wont start some mornings you need to wind it over before it fires, immediately after it fires you can switch off ignition and it will start first time and continue to start all day. vw dealer says no fault codes present. gloplugs renewed, new battery,fuel problem? Has anyone come accross similar problem I

if u have an electronic key than security codes from ur key must be programmed into the ecu to match-- most ecu change overs on cars usually require a trip to the dealer so they can install their programming most auto shops dont have the funds to, or customer base to spend thousands [every auto maker has their own software and update and change every year]-- every year on reprogramming software for ecu-- they may do only 1 or 2 a year

Lack of power


Turbo failure is never normally intermittant so I doubt it is a turbo fault.

The wastegate relys on a signal from the ECU via the MAFS.

Mass Air Flow Sensors are very common to fail on VW TDi and this also fits in with your symptoms.

Location of heater blower resistor


Hi
Sorry....No good news on this problem.
The resistor is built into the blower motor and can NOT be removed
You are going to have to replace the motor

VW transporter power problem


Hi nick. I have a T5 04 model and recently had the same problem. i was told it was a blown turbo so i had a friend look at it and turbo was fine. got vw to run a diagnostics and it had a broken wire running from the charge pressure meter. replaced for 9 euro. 3 weeks later same problem and it turned out to be a loose plug on the air mass meter. now its perfect again. apparently what happens is that if the engin management is getting a wrong reading from the pressure meter it limits the van to 40 horse power for fear of blowing the engine. whenever i switched the van off and back on the problem would fix itself but as time went on it got worse until complete failure. the wire is located under the coolant resivoir. dont know exactly where though. email me on paulblackpb@gmail.com if you need to know more. if it does turn out to be the turbo (which i doubt) then there is a website called CRTurbos that seem to be the cheapest around. but i seen another forum where the turbos were replaced and the problem remained. I suggest first look at the charge pressure meter.

1998 chevy astro van ecm II fuse(20amp)burn out continually


The first thing you should do is to locate the oil pressure switch/sending unit.


This switch serves two functions.

1) provide oil pressure reading

2) disable the fuel pump relay in event of oil pressure loss.

When this switch is failing to provide the correct pressure to the ECU. The wiring harness can overheat and eventually create a short.

ECM2 fuse blow is because the harness is grounding/shorting.

DO NOT drive the truck until you change the oil pressure switch.

After you change the switch,you should spend sometime to inspect the wiring between the fuel pump relay,ECU and fuel pump.
