Radio - 2003 Chrysler 300 M

Radio has a lot of static, sounds like the antenna is not properly connected; sometimes it plays fine for about 5 minutes and then it gets noisy to the point that you can't hear anything.
Tried securing the antenna to the back of the radio but it didn't help. Any suggestions?

Where is the radio usually ground at?

  • Anonymous Mar 23, 2014

Turned on the radio the other day, and it was nothing but static, the CD player was fine. Took it out, and the antenna was connected both to the radio and rod. What's causing this?

A antenna issue would be all the time, not come and go, this is what I have learned from 100's of repairs, I would suggest you make sure the radio has a good ground to the chassis, a poor ground will cause these kinds of static issues.

OEM Stereo

If your stereo was working fine prior to the hot lead to battery being replace and now the stereo is on, but only static. It most likely is some how they disturbed the lead that goes from the stereo to the battery. I believe it is a ground issue. The stereo has to be grounded properly to have it work proper as well as to the antenna. Now, I believe what happen is that when they disconnected the battery, it trigger off the stereo, or they disturbed the lead to antenna or ground to the stereo.

I would try a couple things. I would unhook the battery lead again, and let sit for about 5 minutes. Re hook up and see if it works proper, If not, then trace all wires from radio to power source and grounds. I hope this helps Mike.

The radio in my 2003 dodge neon has a lot of static on every radio station i have checked the antenna connection and it is good. also the cd player has started to skip more lately dont know if it is...

If the static doesn't change tempo with engine RPM, the unit is probably going bad. If it does your radio suppression is faulty. Could be ignition wires or the antenna going bad.

Radio is getting a lot of static

Sounds like either a bad radio, or your speakers have gone bad. Do they sound alright with the CD player? If so, you have eliminated the speakers. They do also have problems with the antenna cables themselves

1992 Honda Civic Radio has only static

if the tape player works fine and no static u most likely have a problem with your ground, check to see if your radio is getting good ground and also check the antenna unscrew the two bolts on top of the car and carefully pull the antenna upwards and check the wire connected to a piece of metal where the screw goes (if good) add another ground to your radio.
