Question about 1994 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Still have starting problem with Mercedes C220 (1994)

Hi there
You suggested (September) I change the crankshaft position sensor - no change. My garage also tried changing airflow meter and throttle control - no fix. Fed up, I brought it to Mercedes and they said it was an actuator and asked me 800 euro to fix it... Waaay too much for a 14 year old car. My question is - what is an actuator and could this give me an intermittent starting problem (car cranks fine but flatly refuses to start - doesn't even splutter and cough). I'm fed up with it.....

I had the same problem, but I changed the fuel pump 1st. I drove the car one block and the car stopped again. I am about to change the crank sensor. Is that a good idea?

What is causing my engine to stall at stop light?

Could be a number of things. Start with doing a fuel system clean and air filter swap. If that doesn't fix it. Look into crankshaft position sensor and the knock sensor.

Shuts off while driving and doesn't restart

One of the most common causes would be a faulty crankshaft position sensor. When the sensor malfunctions, it overheats and stops sending a signal to the computer. If the sensor stops sending a signal to the ignition module, it will cause the car to shut off. Replacing the crankshaft position sensor should cure this problem. There are a lot of other possibilities such as a faulty ignition control module. When the car stalls suddenly while driving it is usually due to loss of ignition spark. Clean all the fuses in the main fuse box. Some of the fuses provide power to the ignition system. If you have poor fuse connections it can cause the problem also. If you need more help on how to repair your crankshaft position sensor I would suggest checking out this sites HowTo section http://www.buyautoparts.com/howto/

Yes the crankshaft positioning sensors could be be problem of the car, but i advice you to run a scan on the car for proper diagnosis.

Hi there, Hope you can help... According to Mercedez service centre after their diagnostic, I need to have crankshaft sensor and camshaft sensor replaced. Question: How difficult would it be for...

both sensors involve quite a bit of work to get to, the sensors are (in themselves) easy to replace!
CKP(crankshaft position sensor is around $55 at autozone where i live.
I cant seem to find the cam position sensor! call your local parts store. they could help with pricing
the CKP itself only requires 1 bolt and one wiring connector.
Good luck

My car is doing the same. You need to replace the crankshaft position sensor. You can order online for about $60.00. Part is $140.00 at dealer.
