Question about 2004 Saturn ION
After installing a new aftermarket radio in my 2003 Saturn Ion, the radio would not power on through the ignition with the red wires and yellow wires from the radio wiring assembly and wire harness connected to each other respectively. The only way the radio powers on is if I connect the red and yellow wires from the radio wiring assembly to the yellow wire on wire harness. What color wire would I connect the other red from the wire harness to on the radio's wire assembly so the radio will power on and off using the ignition? Would blue (used for power antenna or a remote) work?

placement of antenna is important this will determine which wires to use
most antenas are in the trunk of vehicle with a wire clip to connect or disconnect
find your wire clip running from old antena this will be where test light will be used one side of clip is full powered the other is key powered find good ground tip the test light on first prong light stays on this is full power other will be key powered
now your looking for the simple color wires ok on the back of your sterio there is an atenna wire which is blue this will power on only when sterio is on the other wire
you use test light to find without key in take your test light and find a permannent powered full on wire hot supply then connect antenna into these 2 things
at top the reason i mentioned this is cause the old power antena you can find the right leads in the trunk area where new antenna going to be placed with the test light you might need a second person to help you testing wires you in the back and them in the front turning the key on when you need it it makes things simpler with 2 people

On the fuse box behind the driver side left kick panel find the Radio fuse and connect the main power to that remember to keep the full time power connected to the proper wire so your clock (if you raido has one) will keep correct time. If you are not sure which wire on the radio is full time power and which is the on off power check the manufacture web site for information or call there help line. From the radios I have done and I am no expert beleave me but the ones I remember always used Red for the main power (the one that should be switched so the radio comes on with the key and not have to be turned on and off) the full time power for the clock and memory features is usualy yellow. Black or green can be ground but use caution as these could also be speaker wire colors. If you cant find the fuse location from the original radio you can use a simple volt meter or just a 12 volt light blub with two wires attached. simply take the negitive side and place that wire on a bolt that is screwed into the car metal body or frame or to a known ground wire. take the positive end and start touching the positive wires on the back on fuse box. if you start with the key off you know everyone that lights up has constant power so mark them with one color perminate marker. next turn the key to ACC. and see which of the non marked have power and again mark them with a different color (one of these will be the one you want to use just make sure you pick one with a small fuse as most radios will melt long before a #25 fuse blows again check the manufactures spesifications for the proper fuse range to use. Now the only thing left to do is to turn the key to on and make sure the power sorse you plan to use stays on withthe key in on as well as acc. now connect the red wire to the source chosen and leave everything else alone and you sould be fine. I can stress this enough you should always check with the manufacture of the radio before playing with the wires to make sure you dont put the wrong one in the wrong place because doing so can dammage the radio of worse your car. Also keep in mind I am not a professional and am offering the way I would approch this problem if it were me doing it. If possable your best bet is to take the car to a professional so you have some assurances it is done correctly and you wont come out one day to find your car has caught fire and is a pile of ash because you put this wire where that one went and didnt notice anything. That stereo is now most likely dead. speaker wires are mostly green/black stripe, white/b s, grey/b s and violet/b s. ground is black and power are red and yellow.
