Question about 1998 Chrysler Sebring

1 Answer

98 Chrylser Sebring not staying started

Every once in a while and now more frequently, I will go to start the car and it will act like it is starting normally, and then just suddenly loses revs and stops. Almost like the computer isn't keeping the gas going or some sort of "choke" problem.

Same happened to me 5 time this month. In addition to this, the starter will not crank the engine. I checked the starter control wire and it has no power when I put the key to start. I am thinking it's the alarm system which may be cutting the starter and ignition but, I can not find a good schematic. The car does eventually start eny where from 5 minutes to the next day. This has cost me three towings so far.

So it ran up til the time the fuel pump went out? Did you test the fuel pump, or just figure the way it acted it needed a pup? Did it turn over before you replaced the pump? Did you pinch any wire running to the tank? Did you check the relay for the pump? for any other circuit? Fuses? Chrysler also has a roll over relay that cuts out the pump in an accident so you don't get fried by a pump spilling gasoline all over a wreck. Please check all of these things, then write back. I own a '96 Sebring Convert, and I've been through it in many places. Merry Christmas! Write back when you've run these things down, okay?

Where is fuel filter located on 98 sebring convertible?

I'm showing a separate filter for that model, so it should be under the car near the front of the gas tank. Just follow the fuel line.
Some Chrysler models were in the tank with the fuel pump.

1997 chrysler sebring. Once warm, misses while driving, also sputers on take off. I think it might be a clogged fuel filter. Where is the fuel filter located?

it is using more fuel when it is cold, than warm. so i doubt it is the fuel filter. if the flow is inadequate warm, it would be even more so cold, that just does not make sense. i would look to whatever cold operation fuel enrichment mechanism as not shutting off when it warms up, too much fuel can make it run bad. olden days it was a choke not shutting off.

i had a 90s chrylser and the fuel filter was in the fuel line, accessible from under the car, kind of underneath the back seat. you may start to look there. if it has never been changed in 13 years time to do so even if it is not causing a problem. may be info on its location over on autozone website, they have a parts locator.
