Question about 1996 Saturn SC
I have a problem with starting the car (in Southern California). The engine cranks well with a new battery, but it takes a long time to get it started. When it does, lots a white smoke blows out, and there is a strong smell of raw gas. When I drive, the car almost stalls when I step on the gas, at a light for instance. While I'm driving and step on the gas to pass, the car almost stalls. Now it won't start at all, even though it seems to try. I would like to take off the battery cables, touch them together (away from the battery) and discharge /reset whatever device controls idle speed. I would like to check vacuum pressure on the proper hose/hoses (I don't know which or where). I would like to check and clean whatever is operating the air/gas flow, and if this is possible. I would also like to be directed to a site that has a diagram. Help. Disabled 'Nam vet now without transportation for food and doc visits.
Try pulling the engine coolant temp sensor, They often crack not sure why but the ceramic tip cracks makes the car hard to start, the car's idle may race while shifting gears, and often smokes. The sensor is on the right side of the engine when looking at it on the head. Easy to change and get too
