Question about 1998 Pontiac Sunfire

2 Answers

Fuel smell I have a raw fuel smell in the car and under the hood. I do not see any obvious leaks on hoses or anywhere under the vehicle. It is a 2005 Grand AM SE. Can anyone suggest anything on this? I am not driving it due to afraid of raw gas smell.

Are you referring to a clogged fuel filter? The smell is present when the car is stopped at idle and also for a short time after it is parked.

Have the fuel pressure regulator checked. I had the same problem with a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. The only time I noticed the gas smell in the passenger compartment is when I started it first thing in the morning to let it warm up.

Your carbon canister may be saturated with fuel due to a clogged filter, this is part of the fuel vapor recovery system, or Evaporative emissions system. The canister looks like a coffee can or in some cases it is oblong shaped, it may be in the finder liner or out in the open near the radiator.

Why do my 93 nissian smell like gas under the hood

How would anyone know that,
without the vehicle to check for
a fuel leak ?

Have you not tried to figure it out,
or asked a friend or neighbor to look

On a vehicle that old, you obviously have
to look for those issues, before they happen,
& replace all fuel hoses, etc, as preventative
maintenance

I wouldn't be using it & chance a fire

I have a fuel smell while driving my 2005 dodge caravan, just fumes no sign of a gas leak!!!

Under the hood look very closely at the fuel rail and injectors for any signs of seepage. Under the car look very closely at the seal where the fuel pump is mounted to the fuel tank.

Strong fuel smell in cabin. 2005 Nissan. 2005 Quest. Any solutions?

Well first if you smell gasoline don't start the vehicle, check the entire fuel system locate the filter and check for leaking, also this vehicle uses a cabin filter to filter incoming air to the passenger compartment, locate this filter and replace it. there located sometimes behind the glove box door, or under the front cowling under the hood, in that space just under the wipers, If you can't find the solution and the smell persists, you need professional help ( with the car)

Gas Smell

check under hood while it is running to see if there is gasoline dripping anywhere. You need to find it before it catches on fire. Use a bright flashlight and look at the fuel injectors and loser intake manifold as injector o-ring could be leaking. DO NOT use a lighter. Sorry, but I had to stress this. Gasoline does not burn. The fumes burn.

When i start my car (2005 se v6) i and my wife smell raw gas coming thru the air vents I can smell gas when i raise hood and can NOT see any leaks dealer can't duplicate problem Help please

Sounds more like you have some leaking fuel injectors. If however you cannot see any leaks, thats not very like.ly. One other thing you might have to do is check all the hoses to and from the tank. Check your gas cap for proper fuctionality and the charcoal canister.

Fuel leak (smell is in the passenger vent) but cannot be located.

sounds like it could be a leaking fuel rail. you should fix this very soon. if it is it is a fire hazard. that is if it is under hood and not underneath. look under vehicle and check for wet spots.

Acts like its running out of gas, raw gas smell

this suggests you have a fuel leak in the engine compartment. Possibly a leaking fuel manifold (injection rail), or the rubber line from the fuel tank is leaking where it attaches to the manifold. The fuel line to the cold start injector should also be checked. Rubber hoses on older cars become brittle and as they contract from very cold weather will leak. Turn the key to on for 1 minute but do not start the car. Then check under the hood for a raw fuel wet spot where the leak is.
