2000 FORD EXPLORER FLASHERS WORK BUT TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK

I had the same problem with my 2001 Explorer Sport. In order to change the turn signal switch, you must remove the steering wheel, so I strongly suggest that you purchase a new flasher relay as well as new bulbs for your turn signals before you look into replacing the turn signal switch. Also, bulbs and a flasher relay are much cheaper than the turn signal switch.

My turn signals don't work either UNLESS the tree is pulled toward you (thus engaging the brights) - the signals work perfectly in that scenario. Would this be the multifunction freaking out?

If fuse 10 in the fuse box is good, which I assume it is or you would have other functions not working then the problem may be the combination flasher module or the multifunction switch, the flasher is the cheaper of the 2 parts ($12) so I would try it first, you might be asking why would this cause the problem when the 4 ways work, well like I said it is a solid state unit and operates both the flashers and 4 ways independent of each other, if that is not it then the problem is the turn signal switch.

This is most likely going to be an issue with a relay. The relay on the fords that is tied into the blinker module can go bad is it gets wet or over loaded. Are there any after market things added to your vehichle? This can also be caused by overloading part of your ECU if you have after market headlights, or headlights that carry too high a load. When it blinks for 3-4 times and stops, does it blink faster than normal? This can be a sign of a false connection to the light itself. Such as having the wrong bulb in for the blinker.

The turn signals dont work on a 2000 Ford EXplorer

most likely not in the fuse box nor is it a relay, check the fuse and replace if necessary. Turn on your hazards and listen for a clicking sound under the dash on the drivers side. Normally the hazard and turn signal flashers or near each other. Not a Ford fan so I can't exactly say where it is located.
