It will not run unless you hold the gas pedal down all the way to floor some say it could be a egr valve or cat. converter or the charcoal canastir at back by fuel tank

their are a few different things that can cause ur problem but usually the main one is the fuel filter others are dirty clogged air filter -partial clogged pcv valve-partial clogged cat converter -carbon build up on egr valve -for the pcv try cleaning with a carb cleaner -same for egr valve clean carbon build up -as for cat converter have some one raise idle while u feel for exhaust if feels weak or sounds like blockage look to see also if glowing bright red this usually shows a clog or partial clog in exhaust system[cat going also if smells like rotten eggs possible cat conv problem] good luck

My jeep will not accelerate when it is in gear. it does start and run good while its in park. it will sputter and seems to back fire

cat converter is going bad. have someone rev engine and feel for pressure at tailpipe. i am willing to bet its restricted. did you have the egr fail code? egr valves hardly ever go bad. a bad cat converter will not allow for normal aceleration, even with the pedal to the floor.

I floored the gas pedal on my 94' Grand Prix on the highway the other day to see what this used engine I got in can do. Well, what ended up happening was when I slowed down and eventully stopped, I smelled...

Not necessarily. It could be the cat, but also could be the O2 sensor and/or mass airflow sensor. I would check those first as they're a lot cheaper than a new cat.

I did the same stuffs you did to try and figure it out
The answer, my friend is
REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER
My mechanic replaced the catalytic converter and WOW, it runs like a brand new car
The car was getting dangerous to drive and now you touch the gas pedal and it goes
