Honda Accord Lx won't shift into park or reverse

My Honda Accord 94 Lx, won't shift into park or reverse. It takes alot of pressure & both hands to shift it in, and out of park on most days. Now it won't shift into park or lock into reverse. It will go into drive and all the drive gears with no problem. I have it in netural now with the parking brake on so it doesn't roll, but I can't get my key out of the ignition because it won't go into park. Could it be the shift cable? I did take the shift knob off and sprayed some wD40 on it, but I don't know what I'm doing. I put the knob back on. Help need my car!

its not the shift cable because its has a electronic mechanical selector switch that shifts the transmission not a cable but if you messed with the shift there is a four piece system inside of the gear shifter. in knob in the shifter you have the spring then the button in the shifter post at the top you have the post a plastic piecethat holds a metal piece in the center that has a square end on the top side end and a a round hollow end on the bottom this metal piece pushes in the little metal piece inside of that post which tells the computer in the car that you are trying to shift it in to another gear if this metal piece is not there nothing will push that little metal button inside of the shifter post which wont alow you to switch gears

I had the same problem, I took the knob off and put it back together and nothing. But what I didn't realize was that the button it self was getting stuck, so I bought one at Autozone for $20 and fixed instantly fixed! Thank goodness it wasn't my tranny which is a common problem. Try changing the knob and see if it helps out before attempting to put in a new tranny.

Having automatic shifting problem 1992 honda accord lx 2.2

Sounds like a month or two at most of normal driving before your transmission completely gives up. How many miles are on the vehicle and has the transmission ever been serviced? Also make sure it has enough tranny fluid, as this will cause it not to want to come out of park. good luck.

Transmission wont shift

I've had this problem before. You need to find your transmission computer from under your passenger side floor carpet and see if it looks burnt like this inside. If so, when you call the junkyards, make sure they have your exact year and trim of Accord, ie: LX, EX, SE, etc. Take the old one with you. It's important to know if the car has the sport shift button or not also.

Car stops moving in reverse gear

Sounds like the car is just slipping out of gear. Keep your hand on the shifter when you back up next time. See if you can feel the shifter move when the car comes out of gear. If the shifter moves up when it happens keep pressure on the shifter holding it back like you dont want it to move forward. And of course if the shifter moves back when it comes out of gear, put forward pressure on the shifter so it doesnt slip out. This might work for now but but i know i wouldnt want to spen 700 for that ****. Let me know how it goes.
