Rough idle My car idles rough after sitting and not running either over night or several hours. I must rev above 1500 to keep it running smooth. Once the engine reaches normal operating temperature, it idles fine.

Have you had the throttle valve cleaned?

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

It sounds like you don't have the right fuel mixture and first thing you never told me the make of your car and the type of motor which is important but I'll give you a good long shot answer sounds like the fuel is not burning off I would get me a can of mass air flow sensor cleaner and follow the instructions the mass airflow sensor determines the amount of air and the computer raise the amount of gas to know how to regulate the mass airflow sensor and also clean the throttle body hope this trip works thanks

Replace the temperature sending unit/sensor. This sensor tells the computer to put the engine into cold start mode and it then sets idle a bit higher and puts a bit more fuel into the engine to keep it running without having to touch the throttle. Once it's warm, sensor tells computer to go to normal run mode and it's done. No problem.

I have a 1999 Grand Caravan with start up problems

if you dont already I would highly recommend pluging it in a night if it has a block heater it helps to keep the block warmer and this will keep most moister from regular use from freezing in the electrical connections under the hood also try using a fuel anti freeze if there is the slightest bit of moister in the lines it will cause a rough start and it takes 35seconds of above idle running for the vehicles fuel injection programing to reset it self and run smoothly, also have the battery checked it could just have a weak moment until the alternator kicks in to recharge it from the start-up so I would recommend having the battery check cold so it hasn't had the boost from the alternator yet.hope this helps.

Won't start, engine wont rev above 2000rpm

Have the alternator tested. You are providing a low charge to the battery when you jump it and when taking it above 2K RPM requires more amperage resulting in the engine dying and the rough idle

97 M3 chokes on clold start.

The E36 M3 is natorious for having some minor enigine hesitation immediately after a cold start. My car does this for about the first block both in the morning and after work. Its part of the engine management start routine: you will see this more specifically if you just start you car when its cold and let it idle. Initially you'll notice that the idle tone is a bit more rumbly and rough; but after about minute or so you'll notice that pitch changes and smoothes out. I was alarmed about this too, but after some research, I found it was a characteristic of the design. Just take it easy for the first block and you will never notice. Don't ever cold rev your engine. - Hope that helps.

76 volvo 240 car idles and low speed is rough,

It could be the filter. Has the fuel been changed after storage? I would also thing the Carburetor or the fuel injectors might need to be cleaned.
