Question about 1987 BMW 3 Series

Black Smoke and Hessitation when Accelerating

I have a 1987 BMW 525e that produces black and smelling balck smoke. If also has bad idling and hessitates when accelerating. The problem first started when mechanics installed a starter relay after the car had starting difficulties. I requested them to remove it and the smoking stopped. But the starting problem did not go away so I went to another mechanic who also installed the starter relay and the problem appeared again. Likewise I requested them to remove it and the smoking problem stopped. I left teh car with them to see how they could repair the starting difficulties but they failed. Unfortunately when I got my car back, the smoking problem and hessitation on accelation was seen. They claim to have changed the injectors, one sensor on the engine that I forgot the name of, checked the wiring, etc. But the problem of smoking is still there. In addition, my temperature gauge does not show the temparature anymore. Can anyone tell me what the problem could be? Your help will be appreciated.

Ther are 2 sending switches at the front of the engine pop them off and look in the ends of the 1 of them has one prong the other has 2 make sure they were returned to the correct unit as they will plug on to each other. I had this same issue it also will effect how the car runs as the 2 prong one goes to the ECM to adjust the fuel mixture when the engine is cold.

I have an 1987 gmc jimmy s15 with a tbi 2.8 v6 with about 201000 miles on it.I've been haveing a few issues with a bad miss and revs at idle and now is blowing black smoke. I've changed the plugs...

Bad miss & erratic idle can be the T.P.S. had the same problem on an 89 S10 & 91 Sonoma. As for black smoke sounds like oil in cylinders. If the truck has REALLY bad blow by & REALLY worn P.C.V. Valve that can make it smoke too. If not then probably the piston rings with that many miles.

My bmw 730d 2004 is blowing out alot of black smoke what does this mean?

Black smoke from the exhaust is an indication of the engine running too rich. Probably bad fuel injection system.

Rough low idle and black smoke

Bad carb or fuel injection issues- the system is fuel rich (black smoke) and also fuel rich system can make the idle low. Many things can cause this but thses are just a few.

Bmw 330d ...black smoke when idleing

Valve stem oil seal is worn. It doesn't smoke when injector disconnected because no compression as cylinder not firing with no fuel.

coolant tempurature sensor may be bad. (if it is bad it will run to rich, run rough at idle, and produce black smoke. engine may stall out.

Jag X TYPE Diesel Black smoke coming from exhaust on acceleration

i had this problem and thought the fuel filter oil filter needed replacing so i have just had a service done but problem is still there but not as bad. been told it could be the AGR valve or a split pipe going to it which recuirculates unused fuel back to burn again. therefore unspent fuel is coming out of the exhaust causing the black smoke. i am still looking for the answer aswell, hope this helps.

My 1995 Acura Legend smokes very bad when at an idle. If I replace all the gaskets and the rings, will this most likely fix the problem? I have someone who will do this for me. I do not have the money to...

you think all gaskets and rings will cover everything? 1st thing you must do is determine the source of the smoke. If it only smokes at idle, but never under accel or at cruise, I would HIGHLY doubt its rings. Rings leak worst under pressure...when accelerating or under high load. If it smokes at idle and even more under long decels (like coasting down a long hill) it may very well be valve seals. If it ONLY smokes at idle and never any other time, it may be as simple as plugged oil returns or a PCV problem? Dont start changing things. DIAGNOSE 1st, then change when you have determined a cause.

Smoke from the exhaust while accelerating, shaking, check engine light flashing, stalls while accelerating

If the smoke is white and sweet smell it is the head gasket. If it is black and smell like oil it is more than likely the mount is bad.. a bad piston,
