Question about Toyota Pickup

I ran my hilux in four wheel mode on the highway for about 20 mins. when i stopped on a slight incline the vehicle did not roll down the hill in nuetral. also i had to disengage the wheel hubs to obtain 2 wheel drive. how to fix it please.

Same problem in my friends 2008 model ...felt like the brakes were on when driving in 4wd mode ...i.e when backing out of the drive way ...it may have something to do with the transfer case creating more drag ..(it is always good to disengage the hubs .....I live in Central Australia and only use 4wd when towing someone out of trouble)

manual transmission clutches wear, making it necessary to adjust clutch pedal position, much like brake pads wear. Check your vehicle clutch adjustment by finding out if clutch pull point, or friction point is approximately I/2 the distance from all the way pressed to the floor and all the way released. does not need to be exactly halfway, but should be close. If the clutch release point is up towards the top vehicle clutch definitely will not hold completely, and allow vehicle pulsing roll. This will indicate clutch adjustment, or even require replacement.

1992 subaru legacy (manual transmission) accelerating problems


Manual transmission subarus have a 'hill holder' feature that is part of the braking system; when you stop on a slight incline, engage the clutch, and step on the brake at the same time, you can take your foot off the brake and the car will not roll backwards. When you go to accelerate and release the clutch the hill holder disengages and allows normal operation.
I suspect that this feature was somehow altered when your brake service was performed. It's activated via a cable that is tied to your clutch cable; the hill holder cable toggles a switch on a mechanism that applies brake fluid to one (or two, depending on model year) brake calipers. I'd start here. If you google hill holder you should find some diagrams of what I'm speaking.
I had a 1995 Legacy with this feature; I disabled when it began malfunctioning. Took 20 minutes as the bolt is in a difficult location but immediately noticed it was much easier to depress the clutch pedal.
Oh yes, my malfunction was so bad (and improperly diagnosed by the local brake 'specialists') that the brakes would lock up while driving and I couldn't move the car! I destroyed my left front brake caliper before figuring out the culprit on my own.

Hope it's an easy fix whatever it is!

auto hold helps to prevent rool back on hills, it is not somethreing you need to operate, it is completely automatic.

How to put in four wheel drive


FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM

(a) Four-wheel drive control

Use the four-wheel drive control lever and center

differential lock button to select the following transfer and

center differential modes.

The "H" and "L" position of the four-wheel drive control lever

provides either lock or unlock mode of the center differential

depending on the center differential lock button position.

Use the center differential lock system if your wheels get stuck

in a ditch, or when you are driving on a slippery or bumpy

surface. When the center differential is locked, the vehicle

stability control system is automatically turned off and the

center differential lock and "VSC OFF" indicator lights come on

because the function that controls engine performance

As soon as the center differential lock switch is turned

on, the "VSC OFF" indicator light comes on. After the

wheels are out of the ditch or off the slippery or bumpy

surface, turn the center differential lock switch off.

Make sure the center differential lock indicator light and

vehicle stability control system off indicator light turn

off.

"H" (high speed position, center differential unlocked):

Lever at "H", center differential lock button left out

Use this for normal driving on all types of roads, from dry

hard-surfaced roads to wet, icy or snow-covered roads. This

position gives greater economy, quietest ride, least wear and

better vehicle control.

"H" (high speed position, center differential locked): Lever

at "H", center differential lock button pushed in

Use this for greater traction when you experience a loss of

power, such as wheel slipping, in the center differential unlock

mode.

"N" (neutral position): Lever at "N"

No power is delivered to the wheels. The vehicle must be

stopped.

"L" (low speed position, center differential unlocked):

Lever at "L", center differential lock button left out

Use this for maximum power and traction. Use this for climbing

or descending steep hills, off-road driving, and hard pulling in

sand or mud.

In this mode, the braking feeling that occurs when the wheels

are negotiating a sharp corner is further reduced than in the "L"

(low position, center differential locked) mode.

"L" (low speed position, center differential locked): Lever

at "L", center differential lock button pushed in

Use this for maximum power and traction. Use this for hard

pulling in situations the vehicle cannot negotiate even in the "L"

(low speed position, center differential unlocked) mode. Also,

using this mode when driving down steep off-road inclines will

help contribute to increased vehicle stability.

It sounds like a transfer case problem. It may have slipped into neutral position of the transfer cas. the position is just past 4hi on the shift linkage. You may have the linkage slightly out of adjustment. Neutral will seperate the tranny from both driveshafts (thus impossible to make stall theres no resistence against the engine). Visually check the linkage for excessive play either end, disconnect from the transfer case and manually shift positions (turn by hand and block the wheels). Other than that you may have done some damage to the internal chain or gears of the transfer case.

When I start the car, I can't put the car in shift mode. Unless I am on a slight incline and put my emergency brake on to roll. What is the problem and how much will it cost me to fix?


Can't shift out of park because I've parked on a slight hill and my car has backed up slightly jaming the parking pawl in the automatic transmission after I have shifted into park but before I have set the parking brake. This is a complaint that Ford owners have had for years. Try this proceedure to see if this solves you problem and best of all it's Free. 1st when you park develop the habit of; while still having the foot brake down apply the park brake firmly first and then shift into park and then release the foot brake. Remember it is important to apply park brake with enough force to prevent the vehicle from rolling. What happens is in the rear of an automatic transmission there is a coarse gear that has a lever that engages this larger gear and when you shift into park range this lever goes into one of the spaces in the larger gear and stops the car from rolling. If the car starts to roll it can Jam the lever against the gear and make it difficult to shift out of park. By using the procedure I've outlined it prevents the lever OR Pawl from being jambed into the larger park gear. Try to make this a habit and you shouldn't have anymore problems.

This is normal, depending on the depth of the hill. This is frequent with standard/manual cars on uphills, they can roll back, but with automatic vehicles they usually have a small amount of throttle, (you'll notice this when putting your vehicle from park into drive with your foot off the break, it'll start slowly moving forward)
Now on the hill, if it's a steep incline your car will move backwards, it all depends on how high your throttle (the car itself) is, and the incline depth of the hill.

Stuck in four wheel low


start vehicle, put transmission into nuetral, rotate dial from 4 low to 2 or 4 high. must be in nuetral to change.
