My car sometime dies on first cold start up, engine will not restart until you recycle the key, when you drive the car hot or cold engine will die notice change oil light will come on & sometime service engine soon light come on. engine will only restart after u recycle the key switch, i repalce crank & cam sensor, i repair crank & cam harness, i replace coil pack, ecu, tps vehicle speed sensor, timing chain, i remove the dash panel, inspect all connection, i check fuel pressure ok, i clean throttle body, engine has zero emission, car has factory security system & i last notice engine idle for 10 or 15 min rpm will burp up & servive light will come on & go off. help if uyou can, ecu log cam and crank err

Check you Mas Air Flow sensor or MAP sensor.

Engine cold can not start


runs hot,ok, restarts hot ok
just dont start , cold, but it must because how do you get to 2hours?
from hot?
my guess, is it sometimes does start cold.
ever tune it up at the critical 60k mile service, ever, this decade?
that covers 99% bad cold starts. so , we do that first.
diagnosis is like 10x a tune up, so........ $$$$$

Car starts and then dies turn the key off for 45 seconds and car restarts and then dies


Could be a problem with the anti-theft system among other things.
I would check fuel pressure and spark at the plugs when it dies.
Could also be a relay problem or the ignition module.

Check Engine Light??


Check the fuel line pressure it should be 55lbs and i suspect a weak fuel pump.never seen one of these cars in my life so i cannot tell what is where but do check the fuel line pressure

Check for the number 1228253 on the ecm. If it's on there replace it as they will cause a cutting off problem. You may trying a new crank sensor too.

Clean the battery cables. The cam sensor magnet on the timing gear is most likely defective. This would require the timing cover to be removed to fix.

WONT SHIFT WHEN COLD


The seals in the transmission In the clutch apply are hardened or have flipped over and cracked. A rebuild wil fix this.

1989 park avenue would run about 60 miles then die, could restart immediately, but would go about 4 to 10 miles then die again, could restart immediately but would repeat the 4 to 10 mile thing. A couple...


check harmonic balancer for slop back and forth,,,,these 3.8's have a crank posision sensor behind the balancer,that run off of the balancer,,,gthe rubber wears out and they start to flop around and timing gets messed up.../they cost around 100 bucks for a aftermarket,and if thats the problem,do yourself a favor and replace CPS while tour at it....good luck...Lee
