I am having the exact same problem.

  • sableowner03 Nov 17, 2008

I own a 2003 Mercury Sable. My car WILL NOT put out heat. When I turn the dial (inside the car) to the first option on the left, the car will put out some warm-to-cool air. If I turn the dial to the right (any option), the car will put out cool air only.

I've tried flushing the radiator; replacing the thermastat; and making sure all the "tubes" (for lack of a better word) are clear and the heater core is working. The heat still won't work. Also, the car IS NOT building up pressure. I've tried replacing the cap on the antifreeze reservoire. Nothing is working.

My "handy man" mechanic thinks the heater control valve (that switches from cold to hot) needs to be replaced. He's trying to find out where this valve is located on the engine.

    Can you help?

What do you think seems to be the problem?

I have exactly the same problem in my 2002 Sable LS. I can put the temperature in the car to 90F and still no heat. The AC seemed to work fine in the summer. I have not attempted any repairs yet.

Same problem as the others. No heat. Temp is good. Water is flowing and the heater core is not blocked. My Mechanic flush it out and checked the system. He said it was the door that opens and directs the air flow to the different opening for the air to flow under the dash. He said this happend a few times with other customers. The door that opens has a metal rod and the rod connects to the arm that opens the door but the arm is plastic so the door does not close or open because the arm is spinning becuase the plastic is cracked. He said the dealer if it is the whole unit wants $ 460.00 for the part. If its just the door then it can be less. he also said its a major job because you have to remove the entire right side dash, heater core, etc. $ 460 for the part hey I have to pay my mortgage Ford can go bankrupt. I will go to "pick your part" a local wrecking yard where you can dismantel parts yourself and less cost and have the mechanic put it in. He was very cool about it and understands with the economy the way it is. Has any one heard of this before. I cannot remember what this unit is called. but he said it is half the size of the dash underneath and is a big like box with alot of tunnels to direct the air flow. any suggestions are appreciated and if their is a web site that has a diagram of the dash and this unit that will help. Being work is slow I may have to take on this project myself.

    thanks

    Michael

I Replaced heater core, thermostats, and coolant. Water pump in good working conduction. But my heater was still blowing luke warm and cold air. What I did was pinch the by pass line with Part # 77-4002 Hose pinchers from NAPA

The heater in my car went from 80 degrees to 110 degrees. This is from the vent and not in the cab of the car. Now there is a big difference. Sure hope this helps somebody with the same similar problem I had. Ooooh don't forget to remove the hose pincher as the weather warms up (Summer time)

I was told that the Mercury/Taurus was over engineered, and that the reason why the heater is the way it is...COLD...

Here is a link on the Hose pincher tool

My Air cond, heat and vent doesn't work at all on my car. I have replaced fuses and the blower motor. Whenever I put the new motor in it would run then blow the fuses. Could it be the compressor?

No, the compressor will NOT cause these fuses to blow. You have a SHORT in your electrical system. you have a HOT wire getting into the Ground for that system

2002 Merc Sable wont blow air

I'd have to say it's the blower motor. Does it blow hot air when the heater is on?

My keyless remote for my mercury sable 2001 just stopped working. I changed the battery, but it won't work. Is there a fuse/connection ( less expensive ) that I could try ?

It will not make the car not heat unless you have an electronic climate control but it will make the blower that blows the heat not force the air into the car and you will only get air blowing when the car is moving. Check fuses first (refer to manual if your not sure where they are) and then make sure your blower (the fan) is working when you turn it on low/med/hi etc.

Turn the heat control from cold to hot but it still blows cold air

porbably your cabin heater (radiator like aparatus inside dash) is clogged with debris. you need to replace it if your blower works but it blows only cold air. but be sure that your engine is warm.

The heat in my Mercury Sable isn't working. I turn the heat on and the blowers work but they only blow out cool air, it never heats up.

It could be 1 of 2 things
1st is the engine temp staying cold, if it is then it probably is your thermostat.
2nd and most likely it is the blend door actuator. you can check this by listening for a clicking sound somewhere in your dash when you try to change from cold to hot.
If it is your blend door actuator this will happen again because the blend door is warped, after you get it fixed try not going all the way to hot or all the way to cold so the blend door does not open to far.
Hope this helps, good luck.

Why does my car blow cold air when I turn on the heater

It's quite possible that it's low on coolant. The heater core is the first thing to suffer from lack of coolant. If it's not low, then the heat control is probably malfunctioning.

Hello. You are in luck. I just had this same issue in my shop this week. We changed the thermostat, and replaced the coolant. Fixed it right up. Since you did not mention a new thermostat, that would be my next move, if I were you.
