Re: coolant leaking,temperature too hot when stopped
Sounds like your being ripped off if mechanic cant isolate and repair what is a simple problem.You will need to find a mechanic who has a pressure tester to isolate the leak and confirm that its leaking from that specific point not guess and replace at your expense every part of the water system.

RADIATOR COOLING FAN NOT RUNNING COULD BE BAD ENGINE.COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR IS FAULTY IF COOLING FAN IS NOT TURNING ON AT SET TEMPERATURE OF 196 TO 203 DEGRESS.CHECK SEE COOLING FAN RUNNING WHEN ENGINE RUNNING HOT.IF YES FLUSH RADIATOR , FLUSH ENGINE BLOCK, HEATER CORE,REPLACE RADIATOR CAP.MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 50/50 ANTIFREEZE AND WATER IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM.CHECK WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IF LEAKING REPLACE WATER PUMP. IF COOLANT FAN DONT TURN ON 196 TO 203 DEGREES, YOU HAVE FAULTY COOLING FAN,SHORT IN FAN WIRING OR ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY.IGNITION TIMING WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO OVER HEAT.

Hi, You did well by shutting down quickly. Why did the water come out when you stopped after the fan belt broke??? Residual engine heat. The engine has fiery explosions going on in the cylinders. Very hot. Antifreeze flowing through the water jackets of the engine carry this heat away. Fan belt breaks, water pump stops pumping this very hot coolant away, engine temp goes up. Thus the coolant temp rises enough to boil and push the coolant past the pressurized radiator cap out the overflow onto the ground. I would recommend a fifty fifty blend of antifreeze and water for coolant. It just cools better. Not seeing any leaks is very good. Smart thinking on your part saved you money. Wayne
If you didn't do a thorough cooling system flush with the radiator replacement last year, then i would say you may have excessive build up of rust, scale and other debris. This will certainly clog up a new radiator quickly. You may still have a restriction. I would do a good flushing, including REVERSE flushing until water runs clear. This should help... SOUND LIKE ENGINE COOLANT FANS NOT RUNNING.CHECK TO SEE IF COOLANT FANS RUNNING WHEN ENGINE START OVERHEATING.IF NO CHECK COOLANT FANS FUSE AND RELAYS.IF ALL IS GOOD.HOTWIRE COOLANT FANS TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE WORKING.IF NO REPLACE FAN MOTOR.IF FAN RUN WHEN YOU HOT WIRE IT.THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY ARE THE PCM FAULTY YOU CAN USE A SCANNER TO CHECK THEM FOR FAULT CODE.IF EVERYTHING GOOD SO FAR.REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP FLUSH ENGINE BLOCK AND RADIATOR.CHECK RADIATOR AND CONDENSOR AIR CORES MAKE THEY NOT STOPPED UP WITH LEAVES AND OTHER DEBRIS THAT WILL BLOCK OFF AIR FLOW THROUGH THE FRONT GRILLE RADIATOR CORES.ALSO CHECK WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IF ITS LEAKING WATER PUMP NEEDS REPLACING.
Did you have the thermostat replaced when they did the water pump, as this might be stuck closed and preventing circulation of the water and overheating.....
To check, top the system back up with just water, and run until hot. Switch engine off and feel both radiator hoses, they should be the same temperature, if one is hot and the other cold/lukewarm, the thermostat is stuck closed or partially open.
The stop leak have restricted the coolant flow to your heater core. You can try flushing out the Stop leak with Preston Radiator flush or replace the heater core. Once Cooling system flushed out, replace thermostat, radiator cap and repair coolant leak. Good luck and hope this helps, and Note: Common Black kitchen Pepper does great as a radiator stop leak without leaving any residue and can be cleaned out of the system with water and not coolant flush. Two table spoon is more then enough to stop a small leak. Good luck and keep me posted friend.
Flushing the radiator, replacing the radiator cap, adding new coolant, replacing the sensors and a new thermostat solved the problem. Probably didn't need to do all of these things - but since we just purchased the truck, and given the fact that is probably hadn't been done in a while, we chose to do all of these things (which really didn't cost a whole lot), it's running like a charm now.
