Loud knocking noise from engine

I have a 1994 Dodge Caravan 3.0, just a few days ago it started making what sounds like knocking under the hood, my van sounds like a disel now. Checked the oil and it's fine, I just had the filter and fluid changed on the transmission not long go. Any suggestions on what it could be and how to fix it, it's got 189,000 miles. Thanks for your help

Firstly you should get it checked through a licensed mechanic and if it is able to repair then get it repaired or just replace the engine. It would be better to change the engine once than fixing it again and again. If you can afford a new engine then it's great or else you can buy a used engine like I did. When my Ford's engine got worn out I contacted http://www.buyusedengine.com/used_engine.php and got my engine replaced with a used one. The engine is still working fine so you can rely on used engines.

A loud low knock? And it sounds like a disel now, sounds like one of your rod bearings is going bad. Basically, unless you want to put a new motor in it or have the one in it rebuilt, the only thing you can do is drive it till it blows. Sorry to be the one to give you bad news like this, but your motor is old. Parts are worn out. You either have to freshen it up or let it die.

What would a knocking machine gun sound be under hood. I just started it and somewhere under the hood is a LOUD Knocking like a Machine Gun sound.

Is it metalling sound ? if that's the case then don't drive it .. you might be having issues with connecting rod or the bearings in the both cases engine will seize. Consult a auto technician, but you wont have engine light on due to this.

If it is knocking due to misfire (which is mostly the case as the engine light is also on) .... than find which cylinder have the issue then clean or replace the spark plug. If you can get a scanner to read the car computer it will solve the issue in a blink. Otherwise start the engine ... open the hood .pull out spark plug connector one by one and notice the change in sound... the one that is bad will have no effect on the sound.

My 1995 Dodge Caravan started making a VERY LOUD lawnmower sound. I looked under the hood and noticed a frayed cord behind the engine. Not sure what is going on.

Wheel Bearings sometimes make this noise when on there way out..
change quickly or they could disintegrate ,and collapse..

Hi............ Sounds like the fan motor, but first check the resistor pack........ normally fails first..... sometimes though you end up renewing both..... would think by the age of the vehicle that this will be the case........ Hope this helps...... Steve ....... Botswana

2006 Dodge Gr. Caravan. Loud humming noise upon

Misalignment of the belt, incorrect belt, worn or loose tensioner, Too tight of an adjustment (many service centers do this on purpose so when the belt breaks in it becomes properly adjusted, I do not believe in this philosophy), The belt is actually one long belt called a serpentine belt.....

Loud ticking/knocking/rattling sound when I start/accelerate

hi is it miss-firing as it sounds like a knocking noise can be anything but if you can feel it on the accelerater pedal then the noise sounds like its on the inlet valve side which would transfere the noise up the throttle body where the accelerater is located it could be something as simple as a tappet come loose to a burned valve you need to have a look do a compression test and take the rocker cover off see if theres anything come loose yates210456
