Heater fan switch works only on high speed

I have checked the tests at 3 different ohm values; the blower operates only at high; the blower shuts down for 10-30 seconds then blows for about the same time; the blower works fine when the engine is not running(when key is in right position)-it only shuts down when engine is running.

Check the blower relay sounds like sticking contacts

Initially, pls try check if the ACC and/or IGN B+12 is present with the use of a voltmeter. This 12VDC should be present at either engine on or off. There instances that due to heat built-up or corrosion or loose connector, the IGN+12 would be missing. Additionally, you could also check the fuse and fuse holder. To recap, areas to check would be:

  • Acc/IGN B+12;
  • connector(s);
  • terminals;
  • IGN switch;
  • fuse and fuse holder.
Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

My air conditioning fan is inop. Which fuse controls it?

which fan? of the 3 to 4 fans?
the dash blower fan?
the engine fans? 1 , 2 , or hybrid fan for RADiator and on big engine the hydraulic fan?

if blower dead fuse 1 in the PDC is the fuse to check. 40amp rating.

on this more complex system you must scan the PCM first to see if you have HVAC DTC errors.

The NON AZC (auto zone controlled)
is called MANUAL.. (old skool)
the car with the manual system does have the resistor block. for the DASH blower only.
Fuse1 powers the blower and controller.

Replaced the resister and blower motor still nothing what next

Test for current to motor. If none you have either a bad fuse, bad switch or bad wiring. Nothing else left.

How to test a blower motor resistor

Unplug the electrical connector to the resistor. There are 4 terminals on the resistor block. You test the resistor block using an electrical multi-meter, set to the Ohms scale. Using the meter's test leads, check the following:
Between terminals 2 & 3, you should have 2.3 ohms resistance.
Between terminals 3 &4 you should have 1.1 ohms resistance.
Between terminals 3 & 1 you should have 0.4 ohms resistance.
A bad resistor block will generally show infinite ohms on one or more of these tests. Look very carefully [magnifying glass] for the marks which identify the terminals on the block.

The blower for AC blows until i put it on 4 then it shuts off.What is wrong?

The blower resistor sounds like it is worn or burnt out. It could be a bad speed selector switch that is easily tested with a volt meter on the resistor connector. And while your there with the meter, leave the resistor unplugged and switch the meter to ohms and test the resistor. A zero reading would indicate if its bad.
And your question on the galant, ES usually stands for what sub-model the vehicle is. Meaning what engine, trans, and options package are available.

Air Temperature Actuator
The air temperature actuator is a 3 wire bi-directional electric motor. Ignition 3-voltage, ground and control circuits enable the actuator to operate. The control circuit uses a 0-12 volt linear-ramped signal to command the actuator movement. The 0 and 12-volt control values represent the opposite limits of the actuator range of motion. The values in between 0 and 12 volts correspond to the positions between the limits.
When the HVAC control module sets a commanded, or targeted, value, the control signal sets to a value between 0-12 volts. Actuator shaft rotation is the results of a commanded position input by the vehicle operator. With a new actuator commanded value action, the maintained actuator control value is changed.

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee heater only blows air on the high setting, I ohm tested the HVAC fuse under the hood and only get response on 1 leg.

when the blower motor resistor fails the blower switch defaults to the high position. has a great tutorial on how to replace the blower motor resistor. has a segment on blower motor resistors.

I have 91 Toyota camry & just recently my fan blower on works on high, the medium and low functions don't work. Is there something wrong with my fan blower?


Probably not. If it runs on high, it is probably good.
Unless is sounds slow or 'tight' on high, or squeaks or chips , etc. Run the fan with the engine off and then shut the fan off and listen and see if you can hear how long it takes to slow down. If it stops in just a second or two, the bearings are tight (dry). If it spins down normally, maybe three to eight seconds or more, the motor is fine. You really don't need this check.

It is most likely your blower relay.
Most cars have one or two relays to control the fan motor, which is a single speed motor that the relays and speed switch and blower resistor control the power to.

One relay is for high speed, also switch contact.
One relay is for other speeds and divert current through a blower resistor located by the fan duct under the dash or under the hiid by the fan.
Also the switch contacts for each speed.

It cad be the dash switch, which has to handle the blower resistor current for all the lower speeds is burned out at those speeds.
It can be the low speed blower relay, as I mention above, is burned out, this is most frequent cause.
it can be the blower resistor is burned out, this can give no low speeds, or loose speeds below a certain speed setting.

Try you manual for the blower relays' positions. Try swapping with the horn relay to test if it is the same type of relay.
Take out the blower resistor carefully (pretend you are defusing a bomb or playing "operation" game as it has exposed coils that are delicate and if you bump the sides of the opening as you extract it you will damage it and short the coils against each other). the wire coils are very fine bare wire coils that look like springs and if touching can burn out.
Switch is harder to test because hard to get at, check the other things first.
You should be able to test for voltages at the resistor plug to see if power is coming from the switch, but wiring schemes can vary.
Post back or use shop manual to troubleshoot the switch.

AC only works on settings 3 & 5

souns like a bad blower resistor.the resistor controls the different speeds.sometimes every speed except the highest will stop working.the blower resistor is almost always near the blower motor.

Heater blower only blows on low

This could be a few different things:

1.Check the power and ground connections on your blower motor, corrosion can cause high resistance and a slow blower speed.

2. Check your available voltage at the blower motor on the different settings. it should vary with high supplying 12volts, make sure to do this check with the blower motor still plugged in.

3. Connect the blower to a 12v power source and see if it runs at high speed.

If all else fails i would check your resistor pack, i would not suspect this because when it fails you usually just loose all speeds except for high, but it could happen.
