Drain plugs are located at the lower back portion of the radiator. use your fingers to un screw it. if it is too hard, use a mechanical pliers. just be careful of the hot water.

It is located at the lowest level of the radiator, and it looks like a miniature water tap. Be careful not to try to drain it when the coolant is very hot, you could get burned. You will need a very large container to hold the coolant, at least 6 gallons in size. You should be able to do it by hand if not carefully us a pair of pliers.

How to flush the cooling system on a 2002 Chevrolet astro van

  • Open pet cock drain valve at bottom of radiator

  • Open top radiator cap

  • Allow to drain into bucket or pan, then dispose of responsibly. This is dangerous to your pets.

  • Then loosen and remove any one radiator hose

    • Introduce a flow of water from a garden hose into a created opening, either the hose or other end.

    • Keep doing this until water is clear coming out opposite end.

    • Then switch, and do that again

  • Remove thermostat

    • Flush out that area

  • The more flushing, and the more areas opened after the initial, the better.

    • Upper and lower radiator hoses

Where do I find the coolant drain plug to replace my coolant on 1997 chevy cavalier?

there isn't a proper drain plug for this type of radiator, nor is there a direct radiator cap either. fun, right?
you can however go about using the lower raditor hose in the same fashion, removing the pressurized overflow bottle cap will greatly aid in drain time and prevent gulping and excessive splashing.
it is a pain to get to without making a mess

Coolant/radiator flush

No, its not hard to do but keep in mind if youre just going to drain the rad and refill it there is still a lot of coolant in the engine that wont be replaced........the drain plug will be somewhere near the bottom of the radiator, most will be a flat tab that you should be able to turn without any tools....remember lefty loosey righty tighty
