What lights are not working ? The instrument cluster illumination is inoperative or all the lights ,radio , heater control head, all the switches that would be back lighted.
The climate control panel illumination is inoperative , The passenger door lock control switch illumination is inoperative. Could need new dimmer switch , new instrument cluster. When installing a new instrument cluster, it is necessary to upload the module configuration to the scan tool. Following installation of the new instrument cluster, download the module configuration from the scan tool into the new instrument cluster. Refer to Section 418-01 .
I believe there should a dash light type bulb that goes in to the heater control head. You'll need to take out the control head away from the dash, to get to the bulb, I believe it's a twist out type holder with a removable bulb.
If I remember rightly, on a mark 4 golf, the middle of the three heater control knobs pulls off. The bulb is right in behind it and lights up the whole panel. I would think a beatle will be the same. give it a try.
What usually happens is the bulb goes out, or falls out. Switch the fan speed to #2 position and wiggle the knob a little as you pull it straight off. It might fight you and you might have to use both hands, no joke. Once off take a look in the heater control and you'll see the little bugger. I think 1/4" vac line can squeeze onto the bulb to ease removal
Correct. This panel is held on tightly and plastic interior pryors help. One it is started tho it will come off. Some control knobs come off too. The heaterr controller once out then needs to be taken apart carefully to reveal the little bulbs. These are unique bulbs not run of the mill. I don't think they are the same as the dash bulbs.hth
What colour is this light.
The Golf mk4 sdi certainly should have brake pad wear sensors front and
rear and the light on dash for this is orange with a similar symbol to
what you describe.
The ABS light is orange with ABS printed on it
if you have recentley changed any of the above you will have probably knoked/disconnected the wires from the back of the unit, if not that you will have to replace the tiny little bulbs in each part of the unit. either way you will have to unscrew the unit and pull out as far as cables will allow. there should be a little connector on the top at the back which powers all electrical lighting in that unit.
Apparently, this problem you are experiencing is quite common in VW MK4 Golfs, it's not the bulb but the lighting connection behind your switch. If you bang the right hand side sides your gan controls your fan lights should appear again. Sounds crazy but it's true. I know few people with VW Golf who have this problem.
