Ford focus overheating

My Ford focus 2001 1.6 is overheating. The temp gauge shows normal. I've changed the t/stat but no difference. Checked the coolant pump from inside the t/stat housing and it seems to be turning ok, but coolant does not appear to be circulating. Also the radiator hoses are different temps, top hose is hot but the bottom hose is barerly warm. Any ideas?

Check waterpump. Mine was working but the fins on the blades had rusted off so the water was not being pushed through.

If you purchased used beware that the indicator light may have been broken to hide this problem. If the vehicle worked normal since you purchased it the indicator light is probably inop or broken.

Flush the radiator first. If it still persists, replace the thermostat. Get this fixed because you do not need a warped head.

Try to bleed the system. Also keep an eye on the coolant level. If it drops and you see no leaks the you could have a blown head gasket. Also replace the thermostat and hoses.

Replace the thermostat and the code will go away, a cool running engine that does not reach operating temp is seen as a fault by the Powertrain Control Module.
