common on older high mileage fors to either have the switch go out or the intank pump go bad, you cang ground terminal 6 on the underhood diag plug with key on engine off and switch from front to rear or vice versa and listen for fuel pumps to be running, likely one is not

Ok sounds like a electrical problem being an 89 its fuel injected eather 5.0 or 5.8 each tank has its own fuel pump and sending unit a dashboard switch, relay, fuse and switching motor. check your fuel line from the front tank it could be clogged. check for 12v pwr. to the front pump the sending unit will require 4V but not much. as soon as the fuel rail pressureizes the ECM shuts the pump off using the relay. Usually the tank switch goes bad first.

I have a 1994 Ford F150 Ext Cab 4x4. The front fuel tank is leaking and the rear tank crossfills to the front. Read of similar problems on earlier models but not the 1994.

you can get to the tanks by taking off the bed there are about 8 bolts a harnes and the fill spout 3 srews this may be the easyest way to get to it to fix

Front tank is not used has a hole in it been using rear its new but the front tank seems to be making fuel 1994 f250 4x4

Your problem is probably in the control valve. Ford had a problem with these. When you would switch to one tank the valve would malfunction and pump fuel over in to the other tank and eventually cause fuel to overflow from the other tank not being used. Check for a defective fuel control valve. I believe Ford had a recall out on these for replacement.

first go to the fuel pumps electrical connections, switch the dash to the front tank and measure power, then to the rear tank, do you have power at both fuel pumps? if so the rear tank pump is bad

check the vent and return line pipes for a clog, it sounds like all return fuel is going to one tank.

Fuel is filling front tank from rear on 89 ford e150

Fords had this problem. I believe they actually had a recall notice about this problem. You have a fuel tank switch on the dash somewhere. This is where your problem is located. The switch has gone bad that switches from front tank to the rear tank. About $40.00 for the part.

F 350 is having problems with fuel

sounds like you have a problem with the sending unit in the front tank. The pickup may have broken off only allowing the top half of the fuel in the tank to be used. Chances are you will need to drop the tank and check out the sending unit. I would also repair the rear tank, parts are cheap and it is very nice to have a redundant fuel system.
