Wrong answer, you need to fix whatever is causing the light to illuminate. You need the management system to work in order to have engine longevity and reasonable economy. What you need to do is have the error codes extracted from the system computer, remembering that the code is a CLUE and not necessarily causing the issue.

There is a problem, it needs to go to a factory service center, it can be any one of multiple reasons that turns this light on.

well have you done any work to it?cause the check engine light could mean a whole lot of things..depending how your car is acting.

Usualy the check engine light reports a malfuction in your engine performance system, it coulb be a misfire, bad sensors, vaccum leak, you need to have your engine code read from a garage or an auto parts store that offers the service for free.
SOURCE: tahoe engine warning light is on, amber in color and looks like an engine 2004 tahoe
take your tahoe to autozone for a free "check engine" light test. This will not tell you the pin point problem, but will narrow is down to at two to three errors.
SOURCE: message system reads "engine system maintenance required"
WHAT HAPPENED IS WHEN YOU SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED YOU (RESET THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT COMPUTER) AND THE SERVICE LIGHT SHOULD GO OUT AFTER 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING

thx mike.. jag service diagnosed the problem and it is nothing vital but expensive to fix therefore i would simply like to remove this particulay warning not override the whole system.. how do i extract the error code and basically stop the amber display for that error?
also auto keyfob not working.. i have seen a suggested re-program method which involves pressing a valley button under arm rest but i can find no such button!
