Hi Patricia,

When you drained the wrong oil, did you replace the oil filter too? It can retain a quart or more.

That ticking sound, when does it occur? Hot? Cold? Idle? Hi-rev?

What type of oil did you put in? If it was for only a short time, it shouldn't have caused a tick/knock.

Ticking Noise

ticking noise usually but not always is from the head--valves-usually a rocker arm starved for oil or bent clogged push rod check oil if black and thin can cause tick also extreme cold can cause -because oil thickened sometimes goes away when warmed up-same noise /check oil pressure extreme problem oil pump failing or clogging --timing belt can cause a ticking but they usually fail-- break causing major problem ----other area to check are the pulleys and bearings in witch the belt rolls on-- alternator can also cause a tick when bearing is failing --

Tapping/ticking noise when rpm goes above 2000 with check oil warning on my chevrolet lumina ls 2005 model

You will have to take an oil pressure reading and compare to specifications. It could be that the pick up screen is plugged. Do not drive the car as damage to engine will occur.

A ticking sound on a 06 ford f150 super crew 5.4L

Ticking sound could be coming from a Coil-on-Plug, or a pcv valve, or (hope it's not) a valve lifter which could be sticking. Sticking lifter noise often disappears when rpm's change, or the noise comes & goes. try changing the motor oil & filter right after adding an Engine-Flush Treatment to the motor oil, running the engine for 10 minutes at idle with treatment added to the oil, then draining the oil & changing filter while oil is still very hot. That last part is very important, so be careful not to burn your hands - be careful. -- The sticking lifter is a likely cause if motor oil has not been changed at frequent intervals in the past (every 3-4K miles) -- dirty oil causes sticking lifters.

Iratic tick over when warm

Could be many things. Sometimes Exhaust flange joints will get a gap in them and tick. You could be hearing the Injectors, or hydraulic lifters.

The exhaust tick and lifter tick both are temperature sensitive as opposed to the injectors.

What you could do is run the engine and drain the oil and put in fresh cold oil. The first few seconds the cold oil will be thicker and if it is a lifter problem, the oil will cushion the noise temporarily until it warms. The exhaust will already be hot, so you will notice a noise on startup. If the noise generates later, its an oil related problem.

The exhaust flange problem can sometimes be heard when backing up and reversing direction. The Torque puts a strain on the pipe joint as the Torque changes from Reverse to Forward.

I hope my Solution is helpful.

Makes like a ticking or light knocking noise at start up, whether it's hot or cold outside. I usually let the truck idle for a while and it goes away.

Usually a sign of needing an oil change. My Dodge Dakota does the same thing, when I change the oil it goes away. Every couple of oil changes I use kerosene to clean out the gunk, just put kerosene in place of the oil, let the motor run for a minute then drain, replace the oil filter, and fill with oil, then you're good to go.

Ticking in engine after oil change

this ticking problem is probably your hydraulic lifters, when the oil is drained they also drained and they sometimes take a while to bleed so they may be noisy... the noise should be coming from the top of the engine...

I would just check that you put in the right oil aswell just incase, if the oil was to thin it may be a little noisy.. its definately a good idea to make sure the right oil was put in (e.g. 40w-50) < this is the viscosity of the oil and to find out just ask someone in you auto parts store what oil a 92 geo storm should take...

but if the noise goes away after a drive then it was just the lifters and is not a big prob

Tick In motor every few seconds after intake gasket changed

Sounds like when they did the intake,They drained the fluids but forgot to fill them back up and since the oil was near empty,I would say it's a lifter. But they can be reprimed or replaced a whole lot easier than some other possible causes.
