There is also a locating lug on the lamp that slides over a slotted groove,When the 2 screws have been removed grab the lamp firmly and pull to the rear this will free the lamp from its location and allow access to the bulb holder.

Rear deck stop light

the hyundai suggested method is by removing the back seat. the dealer will charge you around $100.
i have done it using an alternate method.
1. open the trunk
2. crawl in facing up
3. locate openings below the brake light
(the opening is offset from the bottom of the light and holder (very helpful of hyundai!!!)
4. remove the foam pieces if any.
5. remove the screws holding the cover in place. a magnetic philips screwdriver would be good.
6. unscrew the light using the tab at the bottom of the holder
7. push it up and into the passenger compartment.
8. the entire assembly should come out from inside the compartment.
9. replace the bulb.
10. saw off the extra plastic tab at the bottom of the holder ( will help in putting it back and for future installs)
11. replace everything in the reverse order: bulb , cover ( inside the passenger compartment), replace screws from inside the trunk.

Is there a trick to getting to the rear turn signal on a 2003 ford focus hatchback. I had removed the screw to the lens cover but I still cannot gain access to the turn signal bulb to replace it.

Replacing tail/brake/backup lights and turn signal bulbs (coupe)

1. Make sure the headlamp control

is in the OFF position and then

open the hatchback.

2. From inside the luggage

compartment remove the wing nut

of the rear light assembly cover.

3. Using a Phillips screw driver

remove the screw. The lamp is still

retained by a spring loaded clip.

Remove by gently pulling out the

light housing.

4. Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise as far as possible and pull it

out.

5. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket.

Install in reverse order.

I can not figure out how to get into the rear light bulbs (Stop light, etc). The manual says to remove two (phillips) screws to disengage the housing from the body. There's even a a picture. However, on...

To access the rear lights, you access them from inside the trunk. Pull down the carpet at rear of trunk near latch. There should be the screws the manual is referring to. Once you locate and remove all screws, gently pull the light assembly away from body. Replace the needed bulbs then gently push assembly against the body, replace the screws and set carpet back in place.

Trying to change a rear light bulb and dont know how to open it up

Rear Turn Signal, Brake & Parking Lights The taillamps, stoplamps and rear turn signals lamps are all incorporated into the rear taillamps. The taillamps are lit whenever the parking lamps or headlamps are in operation. The rear turn signal lamps flash with the front turn signal lamps whenever a turn is indicated with the turn signal/headlamp dimmer switch. The stoplamps light whenever the brake pedal is depressed and the stoplamp switch is closed.

The trim panel is likely held in place with retainers like this. Back out the screw to release tension on the pin legs and remove the fastener

Remove the taillamp housing from the vehicle to service the light bulbs

  1. Open the rear compartment (trunk).
  2. If equipped, unhook the convenience net that stretches between the taillamps. It is attached to hooks molded into the plastic taillamp assembly retaining wingnuts. Loosen the rear compartment trim panel. It is retained by plastic pins with a screw in the center. Back out the screw to release any tension on the plastic pin legs, and pull the trim (thin carpet-like material) for access to the taillamps.
  3. Remove the plastic taillamp assembly retaining wingnuts.
  4. Remove the taillamp assembly from the vehicle and service the light bulbs as required.
  5. Installation is the reverse of the removal process.
  6. Test the lights for correct operation.

Inside the boot is a plastic cap embeded in the boot liner. Remove the cap to reveal a screw. Undo the screw and the whole rear light cluster will come away in a sideways and not rearward direction to reveal all of the bulbs. Hope this helps.

Need to remove headlight assembly on a 2004 Volkswagon Touareg. I can't locate the removel clip. (last step)

Once you turn the octagon screw to release the light and push it forward or out of the front of the vehicle, take a light and look to the left side if your working on the driver side or the right side if your working on the passenger side and you will see a metal tab release. Take a long flat head screw driver and press down toward the ground gently. The headlight will be released and the whole assembly comes out as it has a plug/electrical connection on the back of the assembly. I just replaced my headlights, I have a 2004 Touareg with 44,000 miles and have already gone through 2 sets of headlights. The VW dealer will want $300.00 to replace 1 side! They have lost their minds. How long have you had yours and what engine do you have? Just curious if you have had any problems? My Touareg has just needed tires, brakes, headlights. I have done the brakes as well. They want around $900.00 + for front plus about 8 for the rear. If you need anything just hollar and if you have any questions just let me know if I canhelp.
