Question about 2003 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
Can anyone help me with my a class.its an A 140 clutchless & was fine until last week when i broke down & couldnt get it into gear.2 days later i went back to it & it drove ok apart from a slight snatch when u change gear.now they have gone again theres an F on the dash where it supposed to show you what gear your in.no fluid leaks n goes in fine when engine is off.pls help.many thanks.
If you take it to mercedes they will charge £3500 and will replace the gearbox, Alternatively you can change the shifter valve £25, new sump and filter as they have changed, fit a magnet inside the gearbox as the early A didnt have one. Fresh oil and see how you get on, the control unit for the gearbox sits inside the gearbox £1000 roughly for a new one but it has to come from mercedes in germany where it is coded to your chassis number, 2nd control units are not an option!!!!!!!

Read the car's manual booklet; whenever aclass gear turn to 'f'', it is operative in 2nd gear & reverse only; try to off engine & restart, it will turn to 'd', if not, send to garage to reset assyst;
i think you accelerate too much at junction until rpm 3000;
just take it easy, aclass is not for racing or high power;
use as it is a city car with only 108bhp;
