Check the switch and harness attached to the switch. sometimes the wires come slightly loose in the harness and make a bad connection. this bad connection causes heat and melts the plastic around the wire, making it even looser. eventually it becomes so loose that it makes no connection at all.

I have a ford escort rs turbo s2 1988 mk 4 it starts then it stops it starts because of the cold start valve im sure there is somthink wrong with the fuel metering unit as it is not pumping any fuel in to...

The crankshaft position sensor gives a report on engine rpm and this is how the fuel pressure is set for a given rpm. The cold start sequence could temporarily enrichen the fuel and adjust rpm then hand off duties to position sensors. Also cam timing sensor needs to work to maintain fuel flow.

Fuel pump relay was burnt out on mk4 escort rs turbo fitted new one but car still not starting fuel pump is in working order but still not starting

The fact that the relay was burnt, might mean you have a short in the
wiring leading to the fuel pump. Check the wiring under the car to the
back, to make sure nothing cut or damaged it while driving.

Sounds like possibly the ignition switch is going out. Try jiggling the key in the ignition in the on position and see if your lights come back on.
