The seals can be changed, they sell a kit, but u will have to remove the box to do that.

To change the bottom seal, take off the pitman arm ( get the extractor borrowed from auto zone) take off the top cap ( 2 screws) and pull the shaft up, be sure the tires are aligned straight, that way the gears gonna be free and the shaft will come off with no hassle ( some oil will spill) then remove the lock that secure the seal in place, now you can push the seal from the top, i did the job, couple of times without taking the box out, good luck

1987 Ford F-350 Steering Gear Box Seal Leaking. Is it possible to replace the seal to fix the leak?

csk auto parts store has steering seal kits and steering gear shaft input seal kits...as for the replacement procedure, I would recommend having a quality repair manual on hand and do a "dry run" before attempting the fix for real.

My 1994 Ford Explorer Limited 4X4 had a really bad leak after driving it and all the transmission fluid drained out when i put the vehicle in gear. Is that the front seal? maybe the water pump?

If your having to add transmission fluid and not coolant, then the water pump is ok, fill with transmission fluid look under truck, if fluid is coming out of between engine and transmission housing, then bad front transmission seal.

What would happen if the lower sector shaft seals were damaged

Are you refering to the seal on the bottom side of the steering gear box? The side the pitman arm connects? If the seal is damaged and leaking you can run out of power steering fluid which in turn could rouine your power steering pump and steering gear box.

Leaking power steering fluid

Yes most of the time you can get a seal to replace the one that is there. I am pretty sure the parts stores have one for your steering gear box.

Power steering leak on a 1988 full size bronco

The gear box is a common problem on this model. That would be the place I would start. A cheap, temporary fix is to go to your local parts store and ask for Lucas Power Steering Stop-Leak. It will buy you some time.

94 isuzu trooper steering gear leaking

youre leaking steering box is most likely an easy fix, the leak can be rectified by changing the lower shaft seal but this means removal of the pitman arm. you can remove the seal and get it matched up at any industrial supplier

i have the same problem on my ford. I used a meter and checked the harness inside the steering wheel. This was the problem. I had power up to the area where the is like a white tape with wires inside it. On the end where it conects the cruise control and horn and air bag the is no power. I have to buy a new harness. They cost around $113.
