The most common reason a car will crank but not start and you smell gas is you flooded it. Too much gas to the engine causes too rich a fuel mixture and the fuel won't ignite.Click this link below for more troubleshooting :---http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2012/01/car-will-not-start-and-smells-like-gas.html

Gas smell coming from my tail pipes

There are some safeguards which diagnose rich fuel conditions. If you have a hybrid which has a start-stop feature, this may be a reason for the smell.

Have someone check underneath the car for fuel line leaks just in case. If the system is running rich, a warning will appear. Sometimes old gas will make the exhaust smell stronger and if you used the E85 there will be more odor.

Car smells like gas and has trouble starting

This sounds like your evaporative emissions system acting up. Has the check engine light come on? There should be a charcoal cannister that filters the vented air/fumes from the fuel tank. If a vacuum or vapor line is broken, or removed.. or if the charcoal canister is depleted, you'll get the gas smell.

There is a gas smell on our 92 voyager. The leak appears to be from the tank. Now it won't start and battery is drained. Why won't it start?

I had a leaky gas hose at the rear of the tank near the top. The rubber had just finally worn out. Once the leak is fixed and gas added back to the car, it will take several tries to start it because of air and the fuel pump has to get gas pumped back up. Recharge the battery, turn key over and listen for pump to kick in. Pump the pedal once, then try to start it. Don't over pump the gas pedal or you will flood the motor.

Turning over but doesn't appear to be getting any fuel, after trying to start it I'm not smelling any gas like you would if it was flooded.

spray a small amount of starting fluid into air intake, if it will run on starting fluid, you may have dead fuel pump.
